I was traveling on the Elizabeth Line from Heathrow T4 to East Finchley. I had tapped in (and would later tap out) with my iPhone using the Express Travel feature, which was set to use Card A. (For those unfamiliar, Express Travel means you don't have to authorise the card in any way your phone, you just tap and the default Express Travel card is used)

Onboard the train, there was a revenue inspection. I tapped, and nothing happened - I guess the card readers are not set up for Express Travel.

The inspector just said 'you have to double click', so I did. Lo and behold, the card reader worked and we were both happy.

Only later, I realised that the double click had activated and authorised the default card in my wallet - Card B - which is not the same as my Express Travel card.

Subsequently got charged correctly for the journey on Card A, plus a £16.30 failed Revenue Inspection on card B.

What's the best way to resolve this? Both cards are in my Contactless account on TfL.

Contact TFL via your account with explanation above of what has happened.
They will see your transition history showing 2 separate transactions.
Ask for a refund of card b.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I wasn’t sure what the best approach was
It's the same approach as if you forget to tap out somewhere and get charged maximum fare, contact them, they are usually very quick.
