Trainee Train drivers advertised yesterday (Wednesday) for Chester.
I’m currently on week 9 of my training and loving it.
If you want to apply, don’t delay, it won’t be there long!
Good luck

I’m sure most would agree that it is pretty intense. I try to get an hour of extra study in each evening and wake up early to get another hr in if I can.
There is a lot to take on in the class room, how hard that is for you might depend on your career background up until that point.
I worked for BTP for 18 years and 7 and half years for another TOC in the Control room as a control team leader and Duty Control Manager, so I have some knowledge that has been helpful, but some stuff is very specific.
I hope that helps a little?

Anyone applied for Shrewsbury heard anything back? My application no longer show on the portal.
I applied at Shrewsbury. Did DMI, and got stage 1 assessments coming up.

I did pass the psychometrics before, but unfortunately in 2021 so not within TfW time limit.

I’d still stay positive, the call could come any time. The most recent email didn't specify what they have lined up for 2026. There are also only 60 of us in the talent pool which I wouldn’t consider many, thats the equivalent of 10 courses maximum. They have extended our time in the talent pool for a reason, and not many people expire from the talent pool from what I have read in the past.

I applied end of Aug 2025, the process has been quick so far in my opinion, compared to others previously. So far I’ve done DMI and paper tests. Computer tests / MMI taking place next week.

Hi vc99.
There are 6 on our intake, 3x Chester, 3x Holyhead.
Pass marks are around 85% for each exam.
The classroom part is 11-12 weeks followed by 2+ weeks of traction training dependant on where you are based and what you will drive. The bulk of training is on the Class 197, Chester drivers then do 1 week of 158 and 1 week of 230 training.
After that you meet your DI and start driving on the network!!!

It’s been amazing so far.

Thats positive news at least, where did you hear that if you dont mind me asking?
I’m not sure if everyone has been extended but id assume we all have, I doubt they’d extend for one and not the other

Was up from Wednesday to Monday - missed the previous one by hours, so got this one in - sadly not heard anything yet, which isn't a good sign...!

Ahhh so frustrating I completely missed it because I can’t see away to see job adverts for TFW and they don’t appear on indeed notifications either.

Can’t see them coming back any time soon because there seems to be a lot of recruitment this year

If you go to comeaboard.co.uk and click the link “search for job” you’ll see future vacancies there for TFW. I keep the tab open and refresh daily

Anyone heard back from Chester? Mine still just says shortlisting on the application page
Same.

The cynic in me says they're waiting for the previous batch of applicants to finish the process before they know how many vacancies they still have.

Just got my rejection email.

I’ve passed my stage 1 and 2 assessments so I’m clearly capable of the role yet I also got a rejection email. Am I silly in thinking that’s just bizarre? Like I’m not expecting the job but I just don’t understand why you would reject an application for someone has already passed the tests.

Found out this week I’m in the talent pool for Shrewsbury. The whole process has been very quick. From the application to DMI - testing - MMI it’s taken 2 & half months in total. Had my MMI Wednesday and email saying I’m in the talent pool Friday. Over the moon! Is anyone else currently in the talent pool at Shrewsbury?

When does your salary increase? Is it when you start driving with your DI or once you have fully qualified?

Goes up to 90% when you pass out and drive your first train solo. 2 years after that date it goes up to the full 100%.
