Parts of a horse (according to the driver anyway - I couldn't tell what it was) stuck to the front of a grid as it arrived in York station with a freight in about 1988.

Also, I myself threw up all along a corridor of a southbound overnight from Edinburgh when I was about fourteen. Think I got food poisening from the Italian we'd been to or something. I also threw up over the platform at New Street the next morning. Spaghetti everywhere!! :D

All I can add is the mouldy remints of a sandwich left in the fold down tray on a SWT 444 which in what I suspect was at least a week of being there had turned into a new form of life as yet unknown to man.

Yes SWT trains may look nice and clean but they don't clean the bits you have to look for like the fold down trays or beside the seats.

Naturally the smell outside the toilet on a XC Voyager is normally pretty disgusting as well.

On a GNER trains years ago, I was sat in the smoking carriage when a drunken fella let off what was proably a world record for the dirtiest fart which also sounded quite damp at the same time, as it an HST loads of people tried to get in the vestibule to escape the smell and drop the windows on the door after he dropped his guts...

Had a baby puke on me once

I think that might have been me returing from Spurs away

In the 1980s, I was travelling on an old style DMU from Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North, looked under a seat & there was a large pair of soiled knickers!

Did you keep them? :lol::oops:

I have seen every conceivable thing a human can produce on a train. On one occasion whilst i was working a train in the 1980s and i was walking through i caught one guy just reaching his climacticus maxi mus just as i was walking past, i dont know who was embarrassed more me or him! On another occasion i saw a man worse for wear lift up the seat on a 313 and urinated into the plastic part the seat fits in, he then duly puts the seat back and i duly kicked him off the train, what made it better was it was the last one. On another occasion in 2008 during the Notting Hill Carnival i went walking through a train at Willesden after a passenger said a girl was acting suspicious, as i opened the connecting door i nearly feel over a young female girl who had squatted down and was urinating, i saw everything the girl had to offer, suffice to say because her friends got involved and started to argue they were all kicked of the train.

I was working on job a few years ago. A 158 was the traction but i cant remember where i was going, im sure it was late night fife service. I was walking through the middle vestibule and there was a disgusting smell of Tom Tit coming from the toilet. Nothing unusual there i hear you say????

Well when i opened the door to see if the toilet was bunged up i hade to do a double take. The pan was clean and not blocked. Well. For some unknown reason a smart arse had perched themselves on the sink done the worst case of the silent nights ive ever seen and it had blocked the sink and it was swishing about.

I mean come on... the pan was easier to get on than the sink and why somebody would do that i just do not know.

Ive also had a youth whos speciality was projectile vomit after some underage drinking during the day. There was a big group of them and some of them got hit by there mates puke. It was that bad the whole coach had to be locked out meaning we ran as a 1 car 158

I worked a train afew years ago between two major stations. A member of staff put a highly intoxicated lady on my train, who had been immacualtley dressed previous but by then was in a state and smelling of drink. It was a struggle to wake her and get her off at her station and while trying to wake her I noticed a disgusting poo smell. After she left I did a ticket check and her carriage was stinking of fresh poo, and as I was looking for the source I discovered a brown wet stinking stain on her seat where she had pooed her self!

Vomit seems to be a recurring theme, two that stand out to me:

1) Leeds station after the last NXEC train out of the Cross, waiting for the TPE home to York. Guy in his 40s must have been out for a while and was waiting to get the train going west. Few heaves and thar she splats right in the middle of the platform. Wouldn't have been too bad apart from the smell - red wine and lots of it. Think I could even tell it was Echo Falls as well...

2) Another TPE adventure - this time somewhere between Huddersfield and Stalybridge. Just passing a footpath next to the line when a guy comes into view and at that precise moment unleashes a torrent of vomit onto the path. 11 in the morning. Chances of being there at the exact time to see that happening must have been one in a few million.

Here's one I was just reminded of. This is the most disgusting thing I've seen on a train.

Chiltern train from Leamington to Birmingham Moor St. Sat round a table. Young man next to me, older woman directly opposite me. The guy had earphones in but you couldn't hear it (and it wasn't a quiet coach anyway). The woman was sending a text on her BlackBerry, and I know it was rude to do so, but I did glimpse the second half of what she was writing on the screen. Something very similar to this:

"...opposite some chavvy black kid pumping sh*t loud music through his headphones. Bet he hasn't got a ticket either."

Now I couldn't hear the music and I was only a foot away from it, so how she could hear it sitting diagonally opposite him is a mystery. Also there was nothing remotely 'chavvy' about his appearance, and he wasn't a kid either, clearly a student probably about 20 years old. In fact there seemed to be nothing to substantiate any of the bilious garbage in this woman's text other than the colour of the guy's skin.

I think you'll agree that's pretty stomach-churningly disgusting. <(

I could have confronted her, but that would involve admitting I was reading her texts and also I'm surprisingly bad at putting my point across in those sorts of situations. My action was far more ingenious. I tapped the guy on the shoulder and then briefly kissed him on the lips. (For he was, of course, my then boyfriend.) I kept one eye on the woman to watch her tiny stupid bigoted mind explode at the concept of an interracial same-sex relationship. She tried to hide it but the horror really showed on her face.

And the icing on top of the cake of epic ownage I had just served this woman was that at the same moment the guard came to check our tickets and railcards, which we both had of course, and he had that smile on his face reserved for two people clearly in love.

Victory against the bigots. <:D

(Unfortunately I bet if you asked the woman what the most disgusting thing she ever saw on a train she'd probably say "I once sat opposite a white boy and a black boy who were snogging each other's throats out the whole journey. Hands on arses and all. Makes you sick, doesn't it. Also the black one's trousers were so low you could see his bumline." :()

eagle, thanks for sharing this with us. I entirely agree with you and good on ya for sharing that. Disco stu and NightatLaira your honesty too appriciated. For me this moment would be when my mate and I were both sold moldy out of date by 24 hours sandwitches off an XC trolley. Now if anybody was ever in doubt why there voyagers honk so badly theres your answer!

Not quite on a train, but at a station. I was at Ealing Broadway recently, before all the riots happened, to photograph the HSTs passing at speed. As I wandered from platform 3 to platform 2 to photograph the trains, I became acutely aware of an Indian gentleman, leaning against the advertising billboard, whith his hand down his trousers calmly bashing the bishop in view full view of me and a couple of other spotters and some ciommuters that had wandered over from platform 3. I stayed reasonably far away from the guy, but as time passed i became acutely aware he was frowning at me, as if to say "Try and stop me, punk". Luckily he got on a Greenford train soon after that. I also remember my father telling me about the time he came across 2 or 3 pints of liqud excrement in the blocked toilet of an Anglia 150 on the Sudbury line before..........

Oh and Eagle, good on ya ;) superb job :)
