I’ve seen the activity there the last week or so. Not seen the trains going in or out, but the unloading. It’s not the biggest area, but seems to go straight out on lorries.

I'm told that it replaces the stone unloading facility at Hams Hall so that can concentrate on intermodal traffic.

An additional flow from DRS will be starting in November.
4M46 1007 Coatbridge (Drs) to Daventry Int Rft Recep Fl path is already in as WTT.
Return paths as 4S46 STPs. This additional is the run up to Xmas but it is hoped that it will continue into a regular flow.

4E89 19:55 Rotherham Masborough - Immingham and 4Z90 23:32 return are a wagon maintenance trip.
It's likely to be a handful of intermodal flats used on the DB Rotherham - Felixstowe flow.

GBRF still have the Tarmac contract for trains from Rylstone.
I think the paths have been there for a while for Freightliner services from Tunstead to Hunslet, but they haven't run very often.
66610 passes through Sheffield with 6M22 Hunslet Tilcon - Tunstead empty boxes on 10th September:

Going back a few more years, there were Tunstead - Hunslet cement trains: this is 60054 with 6M22 Hunslet - Tunstead bogie cement empties on 09/03/12

I think the haulier used for aggregate trains depends more on the origin than the destination. GBRF haul all trains from Rylstone, but Tunstead is served by a mix of FLHH, GBRF and DB trains.
Hull Dairycoates is also normally served by GBRF from Rylstone, but sometimes has deliveries from Tunstead with Freightliner traction. Last week there were FL trains from Tunstead to Dairycoates on Monday and Wednesday morning (6E28/6M29) and a GBRF train from Rylstone on Thursday night (6D31/6D55). The Tunstead - Dairycoates trains seem to be a bit sporadic - over the past few years they seem to run for a few weeks and then stop again for a few months before starting up again.
A similar thing happens in East Anglia - DB serve Norwich Trowse / Kennett / Barham from Mountsorrel, but Freightliner also sometimes serve those destinations from Tunstead.
On the midland main line, Elstow and Radlett see DB trains from Mountsorrel but also Freightliner trains from Tunstead and Moreton-On-Logg.
Rylstone / Tunstead / Mountsorrel / Moreton-On-Lugg services are all operated for Tarmac so it must be a feature of the way the contracts are set up.

Are there any more quarries with potential to be revived or with possibility of rail link reinstatements? There’s been quite a few over the last decade likely linked to major infrastructure projects going on (Meldon, Tytherington, Horton) . I guess Tidenham is pretty unlikely though!

Afternoon All,
I don't get much freight through where I live, but I've noticed in the last couple of weeks a service from Eastleigh East Yard to Ferme Park Rec Ln Gbrf has run on a few days. Each time it appears to have been a GBRF loco running by itself.
Does anyone know any more about this service please, and is it just a temporary working?

It’s been running to collect an LNER IET unit and bring it back to Eastleigh. On both occasions this has been foiled! This morning the loco had severe wheel flats on arrival at Basingstoke and ended up returning to Eastleigh.

Ah I see, many thanks for this! I think this is the third time I've seen it on RTT - 66722 and 59003 were on it last week, and then 66780 today.
Do you happen to know why last week's workings failed to collect the IET? I'll keep an eye out for it running again as it would be an interesting working to see!

I'm glad you are keeping an eye on this, I wouldn't have noticed it was running otherwise!
Consist shows 20 loaded IKA intermodal twins plus the dead 66, with a combined trailing weight of 1533 tons. With that weight and a total train length of 2540 feet / 774 metres / 121 SLU I agree it will be a good test up Shap and Beattock in autumn weather.
I think this 4S48 is normally the heaviest and longest intermodal running via Shap, with the 1600 ton timing load compared to 1400 tons for the DRS Tesco trains and 1250 for the deep sea Freightliner services (Coatbridge portions from trains that split at Basford Hall ex London Gateway / Southampton / Felixstowe).
4S48 conveys two portions - front 10 wagons for Grangemouth (going forward on 4N49 05:21 Mossend - Grangemouth) and the rear 10 for the PD Stirling container terminal at Mossend.
and although the heading on RTT shows it cancelled, it has the times throughout: it picked up 8 minutes on the schedule going up Shap and a further 20 between Gretna and Beattock. Looks to be a very good loco.

One in Scotland near the Kincardine Bridge with approval gained , rumoured start next year . Not sure if traffic via Forth Bridge or Stirling prob latter . Tillicoultry quarry site of old Kincardine power stn

No access to Tinsley intermodal due to the flooding at Rotherham Central. Freight operators must be rueing the day Darnall West - Broughton Lane chord was ever taken out.... (I can't remember the actual junction names at Woodburn)...

A useful link for reinstallation to ease congestion between Coronation Bridge and Aldwarke on the main Sheffield to Aldwarke line, by removing freight coming from the Barrow Hill direction. (Sorry my knowledge of proper jcn names is as rusty as yours).

That'll be the short-lived routing of the afternoon London Gatweway service that went out of Tinsley via Rotherham Central over the Donny avoider to Hadfield - where the 66 ran round. It then went back over the Donny avoider, Aldwarke, Beighton, Toton etc. Think it only took 4 hours to do that....
