Major Incident at Huntingdon (01/11/2025)

I have seen on the LNER Updates page and on their WhatsApp Channel that there is currently an ongoing major incident at Huntingdon, potentially involving 1Y90 which is sat there. It's unclear at this time what this incident is, however as it is involving the emergency services, and Thameslink saying it is a Security Alert, it does not sound great.

All lines in the area were blocked, briefly opened, now blocked again.

The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Stevenage and Peterborough. To allow them to carry our their work all lines are closed. Trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

LNER customer advice:Due to a major incident at Huntingdon if customers wish to defer travel they can until Monday 3rd November. You can use your ticket on the following train companies at no extra cost:

• Avanti West Coast between London Euston, Manchester
• TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds and York / Newcastle
• ScotRail between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh
• Northern between Carlisle and Newcastle
• East Midlands Railway between London St Pancras International, Leicester and Sheffield
• CrossCountry between Sheffield, Doncaster / Leeds, York and Newcastle / Edinburgh

No trains will call at Huntingdon until further notice, in either direction.

If you are travelling to Huntingdon,

• From the direction of Hitchin, please instead travel to St Neots / Peterborough and speak to staff for alternative transport
• From Peterborough, please speak to station staff and alternative travel will be arranged

You should allow 30 minutes additionall to complete your destination.

At this time, you cannot travel from Huntingdon - the station is closed. Please travel later.

We are currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed.

Officers are in attendance alongside @CambsCops and two people have been arrested.

LNER have now issued a Do Not Travel notice and customers should defer travel until Monday.

A serious incident affected the 18.25 service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday 1 November. As a result of the incident, a Do Not Travel notice was issued.

It would be good if they could report accurately what information they have. I've just seen a Sky News reporter say that services to the station originate from St Pancras and Euston, not one mention of King's Cross.

Most services are now platformed at stations amongst the route, I cannot see services being resumed tonight at all given how unprecedented this incident is. Wishing the best for all involved.

Cambridgeshire train attack sees two attempted murder arrests

Ten people are injured while police say the incident is not being treated as terror-related.

Ten people are in hospital, with nine believed to have life-threatening injuries, after a stabbing attack on a train in Cambridgeshire. Police said two people had been arrested in connection with the attack on Saturday evening after a "significant" number of officers were called to Huntingdon Station, where the train had made an unscheduled stop. Authorities have not commented on the identities of those injured or arrested, or any potential motive.
British Transport Police (BTP) have declared a "major incident" and are investigating the stabbing with support from counter-terrorism officers.

I can't see services operating through there in the morning tbh.

The lines were blocked by the Rail Incident Officer at the request of Cambridgeshire Police, in connection with the 'security alert' on the train.

Delay is irrelevant in situations like this. It will most likely return to London and be cancelled.

I think I'd cut them a little bit of slack. It is rare that a story such as this breaks so late on a Saturday evening,

The right thing to do so the area is now completely isolated for the emergency services to undertake their investigations and work.

The line won't open for several hours. Any trains affected will be returned to a station where it will be taken out of service, or held, exactly the same as they would do if there was serious OHl damage or a fatality for example

Looks like southbound platforms are full as far as Retford on the ECML, and Arlesey on the Northbound, with services being held at Kings Cross. The scale of this is honestly unprecedented, and for a major line such as this to be affected makes it even worse.

yea i suspect the station will remain a crime scene the rest of the weekend, maybe even until Monday but they may reduce the scope as soon as tomorow

It’s very relevant for people watching the news who have friends and family making a rail journey, especially if for whatever reason they can’t get hold of them to confirm they’re safe. News outlets really need to get these sorts of details right.

By the fact the train has stopped at Huntington where it isn't scheduled to call, I would hazard a guess the initial incident occurred between Peterborough and Huntingdon.
