A pathetic indictment of the modern railway really.

Need to get back from Penrith to Leeds. Severe disruption via Lancaster (which was my original route). Will miss my connection.

Penrith staff have asked whether I can go back via Appleby, but no acceptance.

Pathetic.

(Not the staff at Penrith who have tried their best - our "glorious" railway system and Johnny Majors money-go-round).

Was your plan to go up to Carlisle and get a Northern service, or bus to Appleby and then Northern from there?

Down to Lancaster and across. Down via Appleby works now that all the southbound services are disrupted.

I'm going mad today. You probably won't see me again because I'm being carted off.

Appears to be OHLE damage in the Carstairs area....looks like I had a narrow escape - travelling Manchester Piccadilly back to Aberdeen. TPE to Edinburgh cancelled this morning, bumped onto Avanti 1153 Preston to Edinburgh running 20 mins late. Only made LNER connection to Aberdeen because that was 30+ mins late due to signalling issue around Alnmouth. Thats my 3rd Anglo-Scots journey in the last 4 weeks - every one of them has been severely disrupted!

Hopefully the issue with the overhead wires gets fixed overnight considering the ECML is blocked at York again so the WCML will be carrying more passengers then usual.

Ah....you'll be able to post a report tomorrow on the 'Budget Hotels Discussion' thread! ;)

Oh yes. Well it was very reasonable as it happens !

Seriously, I can't believe we still have all this nonsense. There should be a general assumption of ticket acceptance at times of disruption (whether I miss said train or not).

Would it be too much to hope that this may happen under Great British Railways? (Except, of course ScotRail and Transport for Wales! :'()

It ought to. You'd hope Scotrail and TfW would coordinate as well.
