Reading October's Modern Railways, that has a detailed article on TfW's plans to introduce the 398s, it looks like the Vale of Glamorgan line will be the last holdout for the 150s in Wales, saying "a handful of the DMUs (150s) in better condition will be retained for some Vale of Glamorgan services until all of the 231s and 756s move over to their final operational routes"

So another 12 - 18 months, or possibly even 2 years, of 150s on VoG services? (Sigh)
Hopefully as 4 coach formations as they're not pleasant to rhymney.

Did it give a timeframe for 398 introduction?

Also, I'd expect 4 coach 150s on that route sooner or later, 2 coaches isn't great in any case. I'd assume this'll happen even more often once they're cascaded from the Cardiff Bay route (coinciding with 398 introduction)

Or they could use 153s doubled up..I think thats another reason why they are returning

No time frame given, although it was confirmed the 398s will start on Pontypridd to Cardiff Bay first.
VoG services could start and end at Cardiff Central, which would then only need 2 diagrammed 150s per day, or 2 pairs if doubled up permanently. But if 150s are sticking around on the VoG they really need to be 4 coaches ASAP.

Also from that article - mainline driver training on the 231s is in progress. But there are 200 drivers to train, so it takes a while!

I personally wouldn't mind some Class 231s taking a wander down to Maesteg again for some training, that'd be nice to see considering I've lost my photos of the first and so far only run they've done!
Sorry, that's my spotting mindset kicking in, but still. Excellent to see progress is being made.

Does anyone know which 150s are next to go and how many more will be going this year?

Thanks for the updates re the 150s. Does anyone know how many diagrams there are currently forthe 150s? Im guessing the VOG and Cardiff Bay. Others seem to be covering for 197s and 153s for example on Maesteg/Cheltenham/Ebbw Vale and Heart of Wales.

I think it's 12 at the moment.

Five on Bridgend to Rhymney, including a pair.
One on Barry Island to Bargoed.
Three on Cardiff Bay to Pontypridd.
One on the Heart of Wales.
One Newport to Ebbw Vale.
One on Maesteg to Ebbw or Cardiff to Cheltenham.

The last one changes from week to week but it's nigh on impossible to identify because there are lots of on the day substitutes.

Thank you for the updates @Bikeman78 and @sd0733

I hadnt realised one of the Ebbw Vale/Maesteg or Cheltehhams was officially booked for a 150. I know they often cover on these routes.
They seem to change so much its difficult to keep up to date.

I cant see a Cheltenham diagram that is but there's a Maesteg/Ebbw which starts at 06:13 Cardiff to Maesteg and ends with a late evening trip to Abergavenny before heading empty back to Canton.

And 4x 153/9 (906 913 914 921) again not all have Been out in service yet

Is the Heart Of Wales diagram that starts and finishes in Cardiff staying as a 150 to keep Shrewsbury depot competent on the units or will it change to 153s soon?

The service increases back up to five services in December so the diagrams will change. I expect that 150s will continue to appear until they are all gone, or too many Shrewsbury crew stop signing them.

150279 doesn't appear to have been working lately (at least not the dates I've been searching for it on RTT).
Can any kind soul shed any light on its status, whether it it has any problems and/or how many miles left till next C6 (tho I'm thinking that might be quite a while since it was reformed fairly recently).

Many thanks

But if you look the Trainmapper headcodes up on RTT you find that they were operated by other units. Which is why I scratched my post above. Mostly 150285, I haven't checked them all.

Been at Canton since 25/10. No idea for the C6 but its next B exam isn't many miles away so likely stopped related to that.

The C6 dates for 150242 and 150279 are March and August I think. Not sure which date is for which unit but I assume March will be the end of both of them.

Is it still unknown as to whether the units received a new C6 during their time at Landore? It seems a bit pointless to do all that repair work for both units to just leave within 1 year of working!
