Advice on Cotswolds trip

Hi all,

In a few weeks I am planning to walk some of the Cotswold Way. My plan is to get the train from Folkestone to Moreton in Marsh via London on a Friday, and return from Cheltenham on the Sunday after a few days' walking.

I can get a super off peak return from Folkestone to Moreton (I have a Network Railcard) for £62.25. But I am wondering what the best way is to add the 'Cheltenham bit' of my journey.

Not sure if I could get a single from Cheltenham to Moreton on Sunday but then pick up my return journey to London from an intermediate station...quickest way back from Cheltenham is via Birmingham but is that going to be an acceptable route?

Any advice much appreciated.

I might consider checking the timetable of the Pulhams 801 bus to get back from Chelt to Moreton. At the moment it runs hourly on Sundays, so that is presumably is now the case year-round. As it's a £3 flat fare, I suspect that would be both the cheapest and quickest solution, at least to get to Moreton.

Leftwing idea, use the route 801 bus from Cheltenham towards Moreton in Marsh then pick up the train from there

It looks as if you could get a super off peak return from Folkestone to Worcester Shrub Hill for exactly the same fare, valid via either Moreton or Cheltenham.

Is there not a problem that a Network Railcard isn't valid between Worcester and Cheltenham (nor between Cheltenham and Didcot if taking the Golden Valley route)?

The North Cotswolds line benefits from both cheap fares in its own right and from being in the Network Area , but the South Cotswolds/Golden Valley line is outside it.

I just checked it on a couple of route planners and the price is indeed the same (not sure why!) Good suggestion, thanks.
