Why not build a 3rd platform at Saltburn instead of Middlesborough ?

Instead of building a new platform at Middlesborough so LNER can terminate and occupy one of the other platforms, why not build another platform at Saltburn so services can terminate there instead ?

I do have ideas of how this can be achieved but I don't want to get bogged down in arguing the details when I prefer to discuss the principle of it.

This would add about 45 minutes to the diagram per trip though, for little demand. It's much better for reliability surely to have the terminating platform at Middlesbrough. Redcar level crossing is not the most reliable!

Why is a terminating platform needed? Would it not be a bit difficult to squeeze it into a station that is partly on a bridge? Surely easier to have a reversing siding just past the station instead where it can lay over and return just before departure time, it's not like the station has a train every 30 seconds.

Would it be useful for other trains that might need a quick turnaround, especially if they've arrived late?
If possible then a platform turnback is probably the better option.

The point about not terminating Middlesborough is so that

A) it removes the need of using one of the goods lines for through services.

B) A third platform would enable the middle platform to be used for other services rather than being occupied by LNER should that be desirable.
