Wouldn't they just end up sending them to another scrapyard such as Booth's Rotherham or EMR Kingsbury?

As a Londoner I hope they use the very little used rail link (no idea the last time it was used) into EMR willesden , very unlikely but one can hope.

They could, but these scrapyards are relatively slow compared to Newport, so some 455s would still have to be stored out of the way if the current rate of withdrawal continued. Kingsbury has also been dealing with Networkers at Ely, and while there are not too many of them left, they've been going there at a fairly slow rate.

Once off lease do they immediately become the ROSCO's problem? And if so can SWR insist they are taken off their depot promptly? The last thing we need is this further delaying the 701 rollout.

SWR would be renting the space for the 701s as they are on lease. The ROSCO would have their own arrangements for storage of off lease stock.

There is a move pathed for Newport tomorrow and the loco was moved to Wembley yesterday in preparation. If the cancellation last week was related to the announcement, it's possible that it was to assess the situation, check Newport was still operating and minimising risk of loss if they did go into administration.

For the 455s themselves, there's fewer to store with only 17 455s stabled outside Wimbledon for passenger operations. Some of those might fit on sidings too short for 701/0s as well. While not ideal, it's probable SWR could store them all on patch temporarily if agreed with the ROSCO if scrap facility availability became an issue. SWR has enough 701/0s on its patch to cover for the 455s so would be the next phases if there was a problem.

According to RTT, a loco has moved from Wembley to Wimbledon Park this morning so looks like today's scrap move is happening. Do we know what units please?

It should be the units from last week (5718+5860) and the 37 is 37800

That would sound more like something shoe/shoe beam as in conductor rail, possibly conductor rail displacement. I would imaginee the word 'explosion' is a tad OTT (hopefully!).

Thanks for this. When it comes to future phases withdrawing the 458s maybe a problem if Newport is mothballed, but displacing 450s I'd have thought would not be an issue in this respect, as they'd just be returning to mainline duties.

I find it very hard to believe that a train operator would be unable to withdraw rolling stock because a scrap dealer has gone bust.

Can confirm it was 37800 and there was a 455/7 in the mix, just cant confirm the numbers of the 455s as I was speeding past :D

Leading coach has no motors. It is the shoe gear arcing.

People are hoping that there will be a stay of execution for any tiny reason, they're going like it or not.

A couple of things to note.

1.Someone will buy or invest in sims, recycling metals will always be needed.

2. SWR are LTP'ing from Dec to have no 455 diagrams, there might be some STP'd whilst more 701s are made usable but they are going as soon as practically possible.

I'm happy to see them gone, I was just pointing out whether uncertainty over the biggest train scrap plant is going to disrupt their withdrawal.

Are any of the 701/5 units needed from December? I’m not aware if any being used in passenger service yet.
