Yes just the 1 person who is a friend. I haven’t applied myself. I’m already a driver.Just the one person? So you’ve not had any updates for yourself?
Ahh ok. I thought I had seen your user name before. How did you find the training? I see you had to wait along time to start aswellYes just the 1 person who is a friend. I haven’t applied myself. I’m already a driver.
Yes I certainly did. Training was very intense, there’s a lot to process and learn but it is doable if you put the effort in. If you can make it onto the course you can most likely make it through training. I definitely enjoy the job and hope to retire in this position.Ahh ok. I thought I had seen your user name before. Yes, it’s exactly the same.Been Invited to Stage 2 of the Arriva OPC test. I was wondering if the VSE test is the same as the online at home test?
Yup, same as me. Done the test on Saturday so I’m guessing they’re marking them/Responding to them first based on who did it first. Good luck to both of you.Hey guys!
Done my SHL testing on Friday still haven't received any response, anyone else stuck like me in limbo?
There's no unified enhanced standard, if Arriva uses other additional tests that you've not sat you'll need to complete themI already passed the OPC tests earlier this year at the higher national rate, I’m guessing i wouldn’t have to complete them again right? I’ve just been sent the online test and not sure who to contact about it
Had you done the online tests for Overground, if not, why not?Hi everyone,
I recently passed all my trainee driver assessments with Southeastern but unfortunately didn’t pass the Driver Manager Interview. I’m 22 and currently a bus driver, hoping to pursue a career as a train driver.
After applying for the London Overground (New Cross Gate) trainee position, I emailed recruitment and called HR to explain that I’ve already completed all the required assessments and only need the Driver Manager Interview. HR said they’d speak with someone in recruitment and get back to me, but I didn’t hear anything. A week later, I called again and got the same response.
This back-and-forth has been going on for almost a month now. Recruitment haven’t replied to any of my emails, and a few days ago I received an automated message saying I hadn’t completed the online assessments, so I wouldn’t progress further. I called HR again, and they said they’re trying to contact recruitment on my behalf, but recruitment don’t have a direct number and they’re unsure when they’ll hear back.
Any advice on what I should do next with London Overground, or how to best pursue becoming a train driver in the future, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
It doesn't matter if you have passed all your assessments with another TOC, the overground has there own enhanced test standard that you need to first complete and successfully pass. Once you have passed the enhanced test and are requested to partake in the OPC assessment, that's when your assessment which you have completed with Southeastern come in play and will you skip for the overgroundHi everyone,

If Arriva uses the same test, then yes, it can impact your application with themI've recently been invited to do the GTS Online OPC tests, but I'm also currently scheduled for stage 2 of the Arriva OPC test. Does anyone know if doing/failing the GTS-OPC Online test can affect my stage 2 invite for Arriva. Does failing a single exam use up one of my lives of sitting the OPC tests?
Arriva uses an enhanced standard, which likely includes the tests you were sent and decided not to complete. What next? Wait until they advertise againHi everyone,

Have you already completed the OPC tests previously to applying for this role?Received the following:
Thank you for taking the time to complete the assessments for the Trainee Train Driver role with Arriva Rail London (London Overground). We really appreciate the effort you’ve put in.
We’re currently reviewing all results and will be in touch within the next two weeks if you’re successful in progressing to the next stage of the selection process
Yes, I called the OPC and they confirmed this haha thanks for the advanced heads upThere's no unified enhanced standard, if Arriva uses other additional tests that you've not sat you'll need to complete them
Spoke to HR on the phone right after I applied and told them about my situation and was told we’d get back to you, so was waiting on them, but I guess lesson learnt.Had you done the online tests for Overground, if not, why not?
Yeah I reckon so. Like you said atleast it’s not a rejection, il chuck a message on here once i hear back one way or another mate.@DuserH9 Yup just got the same email they are probably doing people in batches or seeing who fails maybe another online test and see who to progress atleast its not a rejection as of yet.
Hi, did you recently complete your VSE at home and now you’ve been informed that there will be another in-person VSE on site? Also, if you have any information regarding these assessments, could you kindly let me know what types of exams to expect if invited to in person assessments? Thanks in advance!Been Invited to Stage 2 of the Arriva OPC test. I was wondering if the VSE test is the same as the online at home test?
Did you complete that online VSE yet? And also, yes it’s normal for them to give you an online VSE and an in person one too, from what I’ve heard.Hi, did you recently complete your VSE at home and now you’ve been informed that there will be another in-person VSE on site? Yes mate, I attempted it yesterday. Part 1 was following the track and spotting errors, part 2 is trying to figure out if the shapes match on the 2 columns and part 3 was trying to do both tasks simultaneously. Much more difficult than I expected due to real test conditions. Easy to do when practicing but as soon as the timer starts that’s when things get challenging, as mentally you are aware it’s the real thing.Did you complete that online VSE yet? I completed it last month, then was invited to go to the assessment centre for stage 1. In stage 2 you sit a VSE in person supervised.Hi, did you recently complete your VSE at home and now you’ve been informed that there will be another in-person VSE on site? Stage 1 has 4 tests:
- Group Bourdon
There's a software you can find in these forums which you can use to practice. Print out some sheets to make it more like the actual test.
- Driver Fault Finding
They'll give instructions of how to identify the faults on a train and then you need to read it to find the correct error code.
- Tea-Occ
Counting beeps, finding correct contact in a phone book and then doing both at the same time.
- Situational Judgement
Read the text choose the order you think best suits the situation
That's the 4 tests on the first stage.
They give prep material if you get into stage 1 but they are not that great use this forum to find better prep material.
