One interesting point from the service changes, which has not been made official ( nothing has yet) is the fact the X57 will NOT operate into Edinburgh bus station. Instead the service will operate a one way loop along Princess Street down to York place then back along Queen street. I'm not one bit surprised as the jct going into and out of the bus station is a disgrace, and Edinburgh city council never does anything to sort out the issues, If you check the draft timetable for the late night X55 it appears to be doing the same aswell. Has anyone else notice first journey of the day on the X55 are missing going towards Edinburgh but not the returns.


There is still no word from Fife council over the proposed cuts leaving Tayport without a direct bus to Cupar .

Does this mean that the service will layover at the bus stop at Picardy Place outside the Cathedral after Princes Street and Leith Street?

We recently held a public consultation regarding some planned service changes for November. Theproposals were designed to improve punctuality, reliability, and connections across our network. The plans were data driven, reflecting detailed analysis of road and traffic conditions, and crucially, they also responded to patterns of passenger demand, helping us to match services more closely to how people actually travel. In some cases this meant increasing frequencies where we are seeing high demand for our services, but sadly in others where journeys were infrequently used, this may have meant a reduced frequency of service or removal where the low level of passenger use cannot cover the costs of operation.

Whilst we never want to reduce service frequencies, where passenger numbers are consistently low, we have to make responsible, data-led decisions to ensure our wider network remains sustainable for the thousands of people who rely on it every day. We also remain focused on identifying practical solutions in partnership with Fife Council to help maintain vital local connections.
The consultation period closed on 30thSeptember and we have been through survey results and feedback to make adjustments to our original proposals. We have now confirmed these plans and submitted the change to the Traffic Commissioner to commence on 24th November 2025. We are working on final timetables for publication as well as vehicle and driver schedules. We expect to be able to publish the final timetables here in early November.
We’d like to thank everyone who submitted feedback on the proposals, the responses have been invaluable and provided further insight to add to our existing analysis.
The summary below highlights the confirmed changes to the services listed, highlighting any adjustments to our original plans where applicable.


Service 42 
This service is partially replaced by the new service 40 between Glenrothes and Cupar, and this new service also replaces the X54 between Cupar and Dundee. The 42 will now only operate between Tayport and Dundee with an increased frequency of 20 minutes as this is where we see usage and demand for travel to/From Tayport. Unfortunately due tvery low usage consistently between Tayport and Cupar/Glenrothes, this section of the route will be withdrawn. For later evening journeys between Tayport and Dundee, Monday - Saturday and all-day Sunday, please see service 41. We continue to work with Fife Council to review any potential options in this area as part of their tendered network.

Service 59 
Minor retiming to allow for connections on our revised X59 timetable. 

Service 65 
The service will extend to Perth Royal Infirmary for all journeys. Journeys will no longer operate beyond Newburgh to Cupar and St Andrews due to low passenger usage on this section of the route. Alternative services are available between Cupar and St Andrews on X24, X59, 787 and Moffat & Williamson service 64.  We continue to work with Fife Council to review any potential options in this area as part of their tendered network.
 
Service X57 
This is a brand new service between Duloch and Edinburgh via Sandpiper Drive, Greenshank Drive, Dunlin Drive, Halbeath Park & Ride and Ferrytoll Park & Ride. Please note that service 5 continues to offer peak time journeys from Duloch to Ferrytoll P&R to connect with any express services to Edinburgh too.  Responding to continued and severe congestion accessing Edinburgh bus station, we are trialling an adjustment to our standard express service routing to travel via York Place, Picardy Place, using the stop outside St Mary’s Cathedral, and will not use Edinburgh bus station.

Presumably (despite the press launch) still waiting for the charging facility at Dundee to be finished.

A few E300’s appear to have moved to South West. I wonder if the plan to remove most, but not all E300’s (Scania or E30D) as a result of the BZL introductions and conversion of 19 to deckers.

Police are appealing for information after a fleet of buses were vandalised overnight.

The incident occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday morning at a depot on Flemington Road in Glenrothes.

A total of 11 buses were vandalised, causing “substantial and costly” damage to the vehicles.

Officers, who were alerted to the vandalism at 9am on Thursday, are now looking to trace the people responsible.

Sergeant Martyn Reidie said: “This reckless behaviour has resulted in substantial and costly damage to these buses.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to trace whoever is responsible and I am asking anyone who was in the area on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and saw anything suspicious, to get in touch.

“The depot is also right next to the A92 so if there are any drivers who were in the area with dash-cam footage that may assist our enquiries, please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 0697 of 16 October. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I drive past it semi regularly and the first time I saw it thought "that doesn't feel like a good place" and this is exactly why I thought that.

I'm sure the fact that this occured during the school holidays is complete coincidence.

Waited for the 747 bus to the Airport on Monday morning - 4.30am bus from Queensferry which I thought would be quiet. ‘Bus Full’ on the screen and drove straight past. Not ideal at that time as it’s only every 30mins. There was one other person waiting at the stop so we had to get my partner up to drive us. If a bus is full during the day it’s not as bad as every 20 mins but at that time it’s every 30 mins so if you miss one it’s a long wait. Has completely put me off using the service now as I can’t rely on it. Makes me think that they should have ordered deckers instead of the new electric single deckers they recently bought.

I've been on a few single deckers that are rammed from Ferrytoll but never failed to get on.

It's a relief when I see a Double Decker pull in !!

That 1.30am Journey is the 787. To be fair those journeys have always been rather busy and at times do get duplicate's, Monday morning was the first Monday of the School holidays, However was there a standing load on said bus? The bus can carry 20 odd standing passengers..

I doubt it. Very few buses in the UK are air conditioned and it costs a fortune to maintain.

I think the same could be said for most bus depots. Some old depots like the ones dating back from Glasgow Corporation days had high walls but it still didn’t prevent louts from lobbing bricks over them.

I'm very sorry but you are incorrect and have been mislead. You can indeed have a standing load on the M90, M9 or M8 etc etc have done so this many times, on 747 or X51 when its not a coach, IE proper bus with standing allowed.

The Motorways Traffic (Scotland) Regulations 1995 (SI 1995 No.2507) (S.183) permit buses to use motorways but they are not allowed to stop and pick up passengers on such roads.
Buses that have been approved or certified to carry standing passengers in accordance with national or European construction rules are not restricted on which roads they can use.

They were registered by Fife Scottish as dual purpose. Indeed on a fleet card of the time, the only "coaches " were two toilet fitted touring coaches at Aberhill.

Can anyone confirm if all of the 59 plate E300’s (bar one) are withdrawn pending disposal? Most haven’t been out for several weeks now, with 27613 carrying on because of what I assume is a delayed introduction for 76125.

Impressive considering how long it took for Local to replace Beachball up here, easily took at least 3 years for them to do half the fleet compared to about 10 months for them to do a quarter.
