395 services STP to AFK

Help required please,

Looking to go on a 395 tomorrow, but not sure which services from STP use them. Or do all services from STP to AFK run 395's?

Tried looking everywhere to find out but no joy, sorry.

All St Pancras to Ashford services are the Javelins. Not sure you can go from there to Ashford on the limited E* trains that stop there.

Correct you cannot use E* for Domestic services in the UK

All trains between [stn]STP[/stn] and [stn]AFK[/stn] are operated by Class 395s. I am not sure what alternative train you are thinking of that could operate these services?

As for the name 'Javelin' that is supposed to only apply to the special Javelin timetable, during the Olympics, during which there will be an intensive shuttle service between Ebbsfleet and St Pancras. As a result of this some people unofficially refer to the Class 395 EMUs as 'Javelins'.

You can call it that if you like - people have unofficial names for trains (e.g. Class 37 have several names!) some are derogaory (e.g. Class 90 = Skoda, Class 47 = Duff) while others are to do with their features (e.g. Class 56 = Grid), and others are to do with the areas they work (e.g. Class 442 = Wessie).

But I was more confused with what other type of train could operate this service!

Ahh, I see what you're getting at now! The OP didn't specify whether he was referring specifically to St Pancras high level or whether he meant St Pancras generally, in which case yes there are a small number of trains that do indeed operate from the low level at St Pancras to Ashford.

I had assumed that the OP was referring to trains via HS1, but as he didn't specify that, then the answer is in the journey time. If it takes around 35-40 minutes then it is a 395 via HS1, if it takes around 2 hours then it is an Electrostar, which will obviously depart from the low level platforms, and is jointly operated by FCC/SET.

Question on a slight tangent here; would the ticket be valid on the FCC/SET service? (I'm thinking it would be London Terminals, +HS and therefore not valid through Farringdon...)

Interesting question, and certainly one I ought to know the answer to.

The EMT TVMs at St. Pancras sell tickets automatically from London St. Pancras not valid on HS1, rather than London Terminals and offering a choice of HS1 or not.
