Now I'm no Pacer cheerleader, but for some reason I think the Grindleford Tunnel on a Pacer has to be experienced. A must for an ALR!!

It lasts for so long on a Pacer that you feel the Pacer will never escape, I agree that its quite an experience!

It's not just an experience, it's a form of torture that really should be banned under the Geneva Conventions!

I love the noise the rails make through Totley Tunnel (Grindleford). A sort of loud roaring noise. Great experience on a 101 or a 142. Exiting at the Dore end of Totley Tunnel often provides the rare experience of a 142 running at top speed, depending on whether you get a good unit or not. (The same could be said for 101s actually, but even the poorer power trailer sets got some speed up through there).

Be sure to open all the windows for the ultimate experience - and diesel fumes!

Just a quick update. I finally got around to having my trip on the Hope Valley yesterday. A Mersey seated 142 turned up on the 11.14 out of Sheffield. Luckily I'm not too tall and can cope with the individual low backed seating. The other two diagrams were a 150/2 and a 156.

Now from looking at the timetable, the 15.45 return from Piccadilly should have been the 142, but the 150/2 turned up. Have I confused something here, or do the units somehow swap over at some point? In the end I settled for the 150/2 for my journey back to Grindleford.
