I have a vague recollection of 455's going to Effingham shed for roof paints many, many years ago. Assume the seals on and around the cab infrastructure was checked/patched up at the same time(?)

The CM&EE (as was in my early days) had sole use of No 1 shed road (nearest to the Down platform - on the left in my pic), although what specific work was out sourced from Wimbledon I can't recall off hand. There were carriage cleaning positions based there at the time and I seem to recall there were specific instructions about cleaning SUB carriages to the effect any cleaning (hand bashing as it was) should not go any further up the roof than the rain strip. An early nod to H&S to ensure no one in that capacity tried climbing on to the roof proper perhaps?. Effingham shed was very basic in all respects and No 4 road had also be shortened within the shed so was of little use for 8 car formations.

5715 and 5865 are now off-lease and will shortly be heading for scrap. 5865 is also being used as a part donor for the remaining 455/8s.

5th of October. 5724, 5715, 5738, and 5865 were also to come off-lease on the 5th, but were cut short because of needed parts.

Not allowed to post what i've been given from an internal source, but according to the lease expiry list i have, its lease doesn't expire until 2032. Not that it'll remain to 2032 most likely, but as of now its safe.

5734 is the only other unit that has its lease extended to 2032. Only 2 455/7s left at that point.

Does anyone know the current status of 5870? She hasn't been out for a considerable amount of time now, might she be one of the next to meet it's fate? Or is it getting repairs like 5872 did?

Can’t the parts from 5865 be used on a 455/7? I didn’t think there were many differences apart from one car.
Also, do SWR/Porterbrook not already have spare parts from previously withdrawn 455’s?

They could. I don't believe many of those 455s had their parts taken off. A few /9s had the windows removed but that's it from what i know.

Still quite a few 455s out today, most stuff via Wimbledon was 455 operated.

Still, I should probably at least get my first ride on a 455 soon though, before they really do go (I prefer modern trains, as my name suggests, but I also like to get in first rides on old trains that are about to be withdrawn but that I had never ridden on).

Try to get a /7 set, and you can get an authentic 508 experience too - look for the coach with a different body profile and window openings. I think those coaches are the last surviving examples of the once very numerous classes based on the aluminium PEP body design from the 1970s.
