Just watched this video from the Rediscovering Lost Railways YouTube channel. It's a really well produced film and well worth a watch.

As much as I can't ever see there being a case for restoring the full route, I thoroughly enjoyed this virtual excursion from Carlisle through to Edinburgh. If I had a time machine I'd definitely take a ride along this lost railway. Felt it was worth posting just in case anyone on here might otherwise have missed it. Apologies if there was an existing thread that would have been appropriate, there was nothing that jumped out as being suitable.

Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the old footage and it was particularly nice to see Millerhill in its heyday.......there must be 40 locos stabled in those shots, and the yard roads were all full.
Why would they demolish the bridge at Riccarton so soon after closure though......there can't have been anything wrong with it.
But thanks again for this......and i'll watch it again on a bigger screen.

No need to thank me- I just wanted to do what I could to boost the video, as it's a decent channel and the person behind it put a lot of good work in.
Possibly the bridge was removed for safety reasons. I'm not sure it was called Urban Exploration back then (and Riccarton certainly stretches the "Urban" part!) but even in 1970 the risk of someone getting into grief in such an isolated location may have been considered too big a risk. It's one thing if someone gets lost on a moor or stuck in a cave, but a man-made structure maybe brings liability?
