No I don't think there was, there was no P7 either. I reckon they will and repaint the old signs eventually.

Yorkshire Live has posted some photos on their Facebook page (no link, sorry). Platform signage has been done in RA2 to point people to the new platforms, so I'd *assume* that the platform number signs are in RA2 as well. The old Metro co-branded signs still seem to be in place though.

The complaints about them removing platforms just show there is ignorance (reasonable or otherwise) and Hopefully the work going on will quickly become apparent that it's a work in progress.

That would render it useless, as platform 3 is not capable of being accessed from the Manchester direction.

It's definitely still connected at both ends! There is a crossover missing at Huddersfield East too but I'm sure the traksy bods will get it updated.

I didn't have much time to work on it today, and don't have an actual map of the signals to work from, so I just followed a few trains through and crammed in all the signals on the main running route in roughly the right places.

Once I've got a bit more idea of what's actually on the ground and a bit of time to reshape the map a bit I will do a better job of it.

The temporary width of p3 at Huddersfield is causing some issues this evening, certainly overcrowded near the underpass. Eyeballing the width while stood on it and it can’t be more than 2m wide (to the yellow line). Hope they are at work behind the boards on the other face of the island and it can be slightly expanded before the next big closure.

Width of the platform is a min 2.5m. Needs a lot of platform management. People are just a bit lazy and always congregate at the top of the stairs

Future proofing. The previous platform was only big enough for a 3 car 150 which aren't long for this world. It's now 102m so can happily accommodate 4x24m vehicles in future, such as 2x2 car 195s.

With all the work at Huddersfield this was going to lock in that platform length forever so made sense to extend it now. Sensible forward thinking.

4 car would actually require 100m.. so it's spot on. Also, when Huddersfield are playing one of the Barnsley or Sheffield teams, they have run extras (via Wakefield K + Moorthorpe), and if they have strengthened the regular they will have had to use (the old) platform 4 - this now makes handling those events easier.

Not sure on the track layout, but could this be used as a Manchester facing bay in the part of the hour when not occupied by Penistone line trains, it could fit a 4 car 331. I’m thinking of peak extras on the Piccadilly stopper, so they don’t have to occupy a through line or run through to Leeds as is the current arrangement.

No. The only route into the platform currently is from the Penistone line - so you'd need to come into Huddersfield and shunt. There is a big constraint here to prevent making many changes: Springwood cutting and (two bore) tunnels each side of that cutting on the approach to Huddersfield - you can't go from up to down lines anywhere near the station throat. Theoretically installing a crossover in the cutting could connect up for you but I've not seen any proposal to do that and it smells unlikely - the new Huddersfield station will have more capacity and not need this.
