Its ending 3 Dec. There’s an official letter which looks like it’s from a depot notice board on this group, you have to be a member tho.

Depot letter…
A notice that doesn’t seem quite right to me and a few others. Why would you end a route on a Wednesday? As already explained, this was the same date that McGill’s pulled out of West Lothian.

I think it’s fake and I know plenty of others do too.

When are the final Yutongs due into service at Larbert?
Looks to be a few still to hit the road.

Also will we see X37 run with EVs in Sunday’s as like the west that everything that can physically take it round the route is run with them

Maybe, but there’s a growing trend of random fake posts appearing across these enthusiast groups. Presumably to fool those who may want such an announcement.

I don’t think AIRX is on its last legs, but I was always of the opinion that it had a shelf life. Where it is in that scale, I have no idea. 13 year old E300’s are not necessarily the best way to compete against a service that is set to get brand new buses.

I get it though. A cheap offering means naturally older stock would be expected. Though the E300’s are perhaps a bit too old.

It appeared to come out late in the evening, that has been the mode of previous fake posts for other companies
I saw a reply to an image of a Bright Bus mentioning the route ending which was unedited and posted 7 hours before the notices began to be shared online. I'm really not sure whether to believe it or not, but as I said yesterday ill wait until there is definite proof from a better source.

It's sad if it does end as it is cheaper for people to use and with growing population and more visitors it makes sense to have more options for people. Hopefully it's fake.

It looks very much to me like a fake. The giveaway is the Eastern Scottish heading - the Eastern Scottish brand was discontinued nearly two years ago.

If this is a hoax someone is going to get into ALOT of trouble. Again with the mis-information the service is used and i have seen plenty full buses, I have also seen empty buses but still..

How could someone get in trouble if it’s been done at home with AI? Entirely possible.

It's still up as a sign on Livingston depot though and as a trading name on their licence. Let's see if any public facing announcement gets made or if someone at McGill's confirms it in the Facebook group.

If the ones in charge have decided it's for the chop then surely they have something else in mind for the drivers, whether it's redeployment to FlixBus for example or perhaps a move to another depot to help increase services.

I've asked a Bright Bus staff member and they confirmed it, drivers being offered transfers within McGill's group.

So that's the end of the AirX then, naturally the company has blamed the airport and other operators for it's demise. Not the multiple fare increases, cutback in timetable and extremely poor reliability.
The notice to staff doesn’t make any mention of other operators, but highlights the difficulties that the airport owners have put in their way, as they clearly didn’t welcome the service.
The service performed well across the busy summer months, it’s just that the peak season is too short to sustain the route and justify further investment. It’s certainly ruffled plenty of feathers over the last 2 years, and taken a significant sum away from the established operators, so they’ll be happy to get that revenue back!

No one will lose their jobs so onwards to the next challenge.

Glad to hear that nobody will face job losses.

There are 6 Yutongs waiting on the full energising of the chargers before they enter service. I think that’s expected sometime next week.
I don’t think there are any plans for Yutongs to run on the X37 on Sundays.

Probably unlikely, but if I were McGill’s, I would redeploy the resource onto running an Armadale (clockwise loop) - Bathville - Falside - Bathgate - Deans - Alderstone Road - Livingston Centre service on an every 30 mins frequency with 4 PVR as I feel Lothian Country have overlooked something like this whilst they try to appease political pressures.

Strange

Would expect the benefits to be done as per the west and Dundee

Not sure exactly what you’re referring to, but the branded diesel buses on the motorway routes in the west stay on their routes on Sundays.

I don’t think Dundee is really a fair comparison, as the majority of the routes are in similar operating conditions. Theoretically any of the Dundee city fleet could quite easily do any run. The same can’t be said for McGill’s other operations. Yes, the limits are low in the other divisions, but essentially Dundee has next to none.

Trust me it hasn't the service has been losing money for a long time u can also tell with how many changes they made to it started every 10 mins then 15 then 20 also changed it to stop after 9 at night got my daughter staying in Edinburgh so was over there a lot seen buses leaving empty while the 100 left full and that wasn't a one off it happened nearly all the time

Apologies if this should sit in Speculative on a separate thread. Given McGills recent desire to expand I wondered if they had considered buying Stagecoach's Fife and Tayside operation. It would surely be a good fit given they already own Xplore and Midland Bluebird.

If it’s okay with you, I won’t trust you, as I actually see the real numbers every day.

Trust me it has ran with a PVR of 6 since it started, so the core frequency has always been every 15 minutes.

The Fife Scottish operator’s license regularly sees fleet investment and is probably a very profitable business for Stagecoach so the chances of them selling to McGill’s or anyone else for that matter I would say is highly unlikely.

I assume, if true the 801 will be taken with the AirX which is a bit of a shame, it was quite useful is me...
It’s a positioning service for the AirX so I would 100% expect it to be withdrawn as well.

It would indeed be a subject for a separate thread, but it would depend on whether or not Stagecoach wanted to sell the Fife and Strathtay operations; I don't think it'd be likely, but you never know.

It'd be more constructive if you would explain why you think someone's idea is nonsense rather than dismissing it out of hand. There's absolutely no need to be rude.

Going back a few years, could you honestly have predicted that McGill's would end up buying out the First Scotland East/Midland Bluebird operation?

I think I may have answered that one but it would be interesting to know @ScotRail158725 thoughts on it.

With regards to First selling Scotland East, that really shouldn’t surprise anybody with any knowledge of the transport industry as First Group have gained a reputation over the past 10-15 years of selling up or closing down businesses which were struggling to meet financial targets or felt that they didn’t have the ability to turn around the fortunes of some of the areas that were failing.
