Anyone else waiting for the recruitment process to continue for the trainee driver roles? I was told beginning of Feb for the internal assessment day/Driver Manager interview, then it was pushed back to end of Feb and I've not heard anything.

Anyone waiting in the talent pool? How long have you been waiting for a course?

Hi am still in exactly same situation as yourself. Got an email on 30th Jan saying the group exercise and interview would be at end of February but have since heard nothing.

OK that's good to know! Hopefully we will hear back soon. Thought I'd start a manchester recruitment thread as there was conversations happening all over the place. Someone posted that they'd had their group exercise day in January so perhaps they are waiting for that cohort to sit their psychometric tests before we get a date. Who knows!

I think the communications could certainly be improved. It is easy for someone in an office to whisk off an email giving out approximate dates for the next stage, without realising that real people are really clinging on to these snippets of information.

I know what you mean! I need to book the day off work with my boss. Hopefully it won't clash with any deadlines I have. I haven't been on holiday since September 2023 as I keep applying for these trainee roles and I'm worried about missing an interview or test. Or worse, actually getting the job and then not being able to start a course! Oh well, it's saved me a few quid if nothing else.

I’m in total agreement with you, I’m currently in the same situation waiting for the Newcastle assessment day, I have a date now but no further information regarding the day, venue, time scale. Best of luck with your assessment

How long roughly was it from application to hearing back about your application? Best of luck with your assessments!

Thank you!
I waited about 5 weeks roughly to hear I had a telephone interview, then another 3 weeks before hearing I had progressed to the next stage. I have been given a date for the interview and assessment day but not much else regarding the day ie, where it will be held or how it will be structured. I’m sure I’ll hear something soon though I’d just like to start preparing myself asap. Fingers crossed it won’t be too long

Anyone heard anything yet? Still waiting for the assessment day. It's funny, when I spoke with HR at the end of last year they said there would be loads of recruitment for Manchester in 2025.

They have, there is courses on going at the moment that started recently.

They are likely working through those that have passed the assessments late last year early this year.

Thanks! I was just wondering why most depots have advertised for trainees recently but nothing for Manchester. I guess they have a backlog of applications to work through. Good to know courses are happening, hopefully not too much longer to wait for an interview.

Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone cam help, i have just received my contract for start date of 3rd November.

My contract says the following "You will be paid four-weekly in arrears not later than seven days after the end of the fourth week for which payment is due. Any enhancements or other monies due to you will normally be paid at the same time but the Employer may pay them not later than seven days after the end of the subsequent four-week period"

Does this mean I work 4 weeks with no pay? I am just confused as to what "in arrears" means.

Most if not all railway companies pay 4 weekly. Depending on your start date within their pay period will depend on what you get paid for your first pay.

Isnt this the same for any employer? They always pay you for work done than in advance?

This is usually standard for salaried jobs.

Yes the pay is 4 weekly, I just did not know if working in arrears was the same as working time in hand so I wouldn't get paid for the first 4 weeks until 4 weeks after which is what my current work place was.

I just did not understand the way in which it was worded.

Thanks

Essentially, it means that the hours worked in weeks 1,2,3 and 4 are paid at the end of week 5.

Hours worked in weeks 5,6,7 and 8 are paid at the end of week 9 etc.

They will try and adjust for overtime and sickness in the correct pay period but if you did overtime in week 4 then there might not be time to pay it in week 5 and so it could get paid in week 9 instead.

Pay day will be 21st November. The cut off date for that pay is 15th so you’ll get 2 weeks pay in your first pay.
