Telford Steam Railway have an open day this Sunday (4th May) where we are celebrating the re dedication of Lawley Station, Our flagship locomotive 5619 and the Steam Tram as well. The event is free for everyone to come and join us in the celebrations. Fee travel as well all day. Special guest Pete Waterman will be coming as well to help us celebrate.

After a short rest for routine maintenance, our unique narrow-gauge steam tram returns to action on Sunday 7th September! This is one of your last chances to ride behind the tram before our 2025 season ends later this month.
But that’s not all… our 100-year-old GWR 56XX steam engine No. 5619 will also be in service on our standard gauge line. Don’t miss your opportunity to ride behind this historic loco before it is withdrawn in January 2026 for its 10-year overhaul.

To celebrate the 100th birthday of our flagship steam locomotive, GWR 56XX No. 5619, we’re running a goods train for the first time since 2011!
️ Day Rover Tickets

Add a TOAD brakevan ride on the goods train for just £5 (in addition to your day rover ticket. Max. 10 tickets per goods train, first come first served from the shop at Spring Village – opens 10:30am).

Telford Steam Railway is pleased to announce our first ever Narrow Gauge Gala, including a Visiting Steam Loco !
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Telford Horsehay Steam Trust, we are hosting three locomotives : Steam Tram 'Thomas Telford', Ruston No. 229633 & Visiting Loco Alan Keef No.30 'Taffy'.
The gala consists of two events :
Saturday 6th June - Photo Charter
Sunday 7th June - Gala Running Day
Taffy will be joining us as the first visiting steam loco ever on the Telford Town Tramway. As the steam tram was partly constructed by Alan Keef Ltd, it'll be a special occasion to see two Alan Keef vertical boiler engines together.
This event will mark Ruston 20DL No. 229633’s return to service and its first public trains in preservation. The Ruston will be out with the demonstration freight set, along with an exclusive chance to see it on passenger duties.
On the topic of freight, this event will mark the debut of our new freight set. Recently acquired wagons will be in service for the first time since restoration. The Ruston will be paired with authentic MOD and RNAD wagons to demonstrate how it worked in military service, while Taffy will recreate the lost narrow gauge freight of Horsehay Works.
Throughout the weekend, the three locos will operate in a variety of formations. Double heading, Top and Tailing, Triple heading, along with solo services to keep you entertained all day long. Each formation will operate for 30 minutes, with as many trips as possible during that period before swapping over to the next set. A timetable of the day is available to see what's in store !
The 6th June will be our first ever narrow gauge photo charter event. This will give participants exclusive access to the line side to get never before seen angles of our locomotives in action. The 7th June will be the main gala day with passenger rides and freight trips around the tramway. Included in your ticket is all day access to the standard gauge line with visiting loco Avonside No. 1919 ‘Cranford’ and the Top Link Model Railway Exhibition.

Our guest steam locomotive for our first Narrow Gauge Steam Gala this weekend (at the Telford Steam Railway) is Alan Keef's 0-4-0 No. 30 Vertical Boiler "Taffy". Built in 1990.
A lovely steam locomotive we have on our hands.
