Unless something has changed it was London Overground and iirc Crossrail were most enhanced , told to myself by the Opc.
Please explain how crossrail are the most enhanced. Are you saying they require you to sit all the tests that every other TOC can possibly use and then require the highest scores in all tests?

That i don't know. The opc said they took the best performers from the psychometric testing. I was Overground and they required higher scores and extra tests , but not all the tests. They didn't require the driver fault finding test (dfft).

The Opc don’t take the best performers. If a candidate meets the standards, they meet the standards

The Opc told me that both Overground and Mtr Crossrail as they were at the time took only the highest scoring candidates and were the most enhanced TOCs. Wether that was just the pass mark or the additional tests I can't quite remember. However as I noted upthread one person on day one at Overground house passed group bourdon , but it wasn't a high enough pass. To summarise the Opc said those two TOCs required the highest scoring psychometric testing .

Thanks for this, I recently passed all the assessments including MMI for another company so will definitely apply for this.

Overground was both as on my first day someone passed group bourdon , but not high enough score. Also Overground did the magnificent 7 sjt and visual search exercise. Back when I passed in 2017 Thameslink did the dfft but not the vse or magnificent 7 sjt .

If they took you they’ll take anybody ;).

So you are saying then, if you pass the full process with either MTR or overground, your scores will mean you’ve passed every other TOCs process?

That's as i understood it , yes . Although for example Avanti have a cbi instead of mmi. Also Overground don't do driver fault finding test and when I did the psychometric testing , Thameslink required it and so you may still have to do the occasional extra test etc. But the scores should be high enough , but that said I passed in 2017 and things may have changed. I know people come here for advice and everyone i know on here is happy to give advice , but the best advice would come from the opc and the TOCs themselves and those organisations are actually quite close. I got quite a lot of my advice by directly asking. After I passed with Thameslink I didn't get through the manager interview and when I went to the days at Overground and it turned out I didn't need to do any tests I made sure I asked plenty of questions. Also when I started at Overground they had a day when the opc came and spent the day with the trainees to teach us to learn again and I used this opportunity to ask a lot of questions.

Pfft. Still can't believe you were taken by your current company and I thought they had their pick. You must of sent a mannequin to your interview :D

You do sit the DFFT now at the OPC for an ARL application, I did it a couple of months ago.

That's been in place since at least 2019 from what I remembered from when a few people I know that had to do that test.

Sorry, not trying to disagree with you.

But don’t want people to think ‘I’ve passed for GTR/overground therefore I can get a DMI with everyone else’. Scores may be high enough, but equally may not.

DFFT is required for the Overground now. I had to do it.

Was wondering if anyone could assist, and sorry for the long winded post. Applied for trainee train driver role out of willesden junction with a September start date for Arriva. Passed all tests at OPC. Had DMI interview on 24th July. Have not heard anything back since. Emailed the talent acquisition team about mid August to enquire if my application had been successful. Heard nothing back from them either. Obviously at this point I assume I've been unsuccessful but would really appreciate some feedback as to where I went wrong in my DMI and have hit a dead end in correspondence since having said interview. Just wondering is this standard practice for Arriva to not get back to you if you were unsuccessful, as would really appreciate some feedback and would like to apply for future positions that may come up again but not sure where I went wrong this time round.

Keep your hopes up. You could be in the running for the November or January courses although that does seem like a long time without communication. Very poor on their behalf.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you. I've contacted them for feedback, no reply to date.

To me it's one of two things:

1. They either don't care enough to even let you know that you've failed the DMI.

2. We've not been ruled out completely but they have better candidates ahead of us. We know from this forum that they've already started offering places for the November course.

With zero response we're just left to wonder.

Hey everyone is there anyone who got email from OPC for assessment center dates??
I got an email from OPC centre about that I passed the VSE, but said ‘they are awaiting more dates from ARL, so we will put you into a talent pool’

Cheers. Yeah hopefully still in the running, though in all honesty I think probably unlikely. The lack of communication is shocking.

That's exactly what I thought, one of those 2 scenarios. Ordinarily I'd have just put it down to an unsuccessful application, but given I had to book 3 days off work at short notice (like may others I imagine) to attend testing days and the DMI my thought is surely they'd at least let me know I was unsuccessful with hopefully some advice as how to be successful with an application in the future. Not saying that in a bitter way just seems a very odd way of getting a knock back by blanking an applicant, given the attention given to the application process until that point.
Any way like others I live in hope, and good luck.

Hello there! Quite new to this,

I've currently applied for the Willesden Junction Depot and got an e-mail last week stating I've passed my VSE with a assessment booked in for Monday 29th September
Currently work in LU and so far not been so lucky with getting Train operator so this will be my first time ever doing an in person assessment for Trainee Train driver so granted I am a bit nervous! Was just wondering if there were anything outside of the tools they have given me so far to help me revise for this assessment?

Thanks! :)

Congrats on getting an assessment date. I hope it goes well for you!

When do you apply for the role? I applied a few weeks ago and passed the VSE, but I’ve been placed in a talent pool until assessments dates come available.

Hey, well done and congratulations on getting to the next stage!! For stage 1 with the group bourdon (dots test) what helped was doing practice sheets over and over each day leading up to the assessment. When practicing for the TEA OCC i also asked someone to manually say beep and boop’s in the background (sounds silly i know) and me counting a certain one whilst filling out the sheets, but that really helped. This website called railprep has really good resources and I found those often helped more than the OPC ones. Also with the DFFT, the time goes by really quick so just make sure to prioritise accuracy as well as speed with that, which tbh you have to do with all but i found the time really limiting on that one. Hope this helps, best of luck:)

Hi I’m a bit confused

Last week I got notified by Arriva -I'm pleased to confirm that you have progressed to the Psychometric Testing stage, which will be conducted by the Occupational Psychology Centre (OPC).

But yesterday received email from opc -
We’ve carefully reviewed your results, and I’m sorry to let you know that, on this occasion, your application will not be progressing further.

I emailed them and was told the first email was for the vse invite even though I received it after completing it. I’d hoped it was like you said but unfortunately not.

You might have already failed to Arrivas standard twice?

Thank you so much!! I took your advice and got some stuff from Railprep which has been useful!

A question to you (and others) in the invitation E-mail It recommended me to focus on the following tests for this assessment

  • Group Bourdon
  • Tea-Occ (Test of Everyday Attention)
  • M7-SJT (Situational Judgement Test)
  • DFFT (Driver Fault Finding Test)

Just so i know, im not expecting any other surprises in a sense that there are most tests i would have to do but they havent specified in the e-mail? just want to make sure im revising the right things!
Thanks :)
