On the Core Valley Lines (CVL) that run into Cardiff,
Transport for Wales (TfW) is due to bring out tenders for three stations over the coming months. They are for:
Improving the customer experience at Caerphilly station with the creation of a new bus and rail interchange. Market engagement in December 2025, bring out tender in early 2026, award in May 2026. Start construction February 2027.
A brand new Crwys Road station, north of Cardiff Queen Street, is expected to have 900,000 passengers by 2029 and bring in £1.2 million of revenue. Bring out tender in January 2026, award in June 2026. Construction start July 2027.
Heath High Level station enhancements including a new road bridge, platform repairs and better access. Bring out tender in March 2026, award in May 2026. Start construction September 2027.
Explaining the work, Dan Tipper, TfW Chief Infrastructure Officer, said the programme was rephased in late last year to focus on electrification of the lines before turning attention back towards stations and track enhancements in 2026 and 2027.
