I have one of those birthdays coming up next year and I'm toying with the idea of visiting the NA, something I have never done and would like to ask some questions and advice from those of you who have actually been there. I could of course ask the NA but personal experience I think would give me a quicker and honest answer.
Presuming I've got my readers ticket and ordered the documents I want to read....
Does the NA give you an appointment date?
Do I need to take with me proof of ID etc?
Where would I go first when I get there, the reading room?
Would I have to go up to a counter of sorts and tell them the document reference number I want to look at?
How are these document presented, in a box when there's a collection of them under one reference?
Do I have to sign for them when I collect them?
Do they have to go and fetch the documents or would they be waiting for me?
To read the docs, am I assigned a table or just sit anywhere I can?
Most importantly, the documents I'd like to take photos of are listed as open documents / public records - would the photos I take home with me be copyright free / my copyright?
Could some kind person who has experience of visiting the NA describe the procedure to me please. It would for me, involve two flights, one of which would be an international one back to London, accommodation, food and travel to / from the NA. If I go, I'd just like to make sure they say well you haven't got this or that - it would be a one and only expensive visit if you see where I'm coming from so I wouldn't want to get it wrong.
