I am a manger at a TOC for 5 years and I’m applying for a role at Network Rail.

However I have some concerns:

1- If the formation of GBR means some roles are redundant, then will I only get redundancy pay based on my time at NR? Or will they take into account my time at a TOC?

2 - Also will I be able to say that I should not start on the lower end of the pay band because I’m already working at an advanced level for a TOC?

Re 1 - To be honest at this point it’s probably going to be impossible for anyone to answer definitively as there are still so many unknowns around GBR.

For 2, surely this will be a case of being offered the role and negotiating in the usual way based on your experience?

Ditto above, and impossible to answer but in my opinion and experience (as of today)

1) you will be joining Network Rail Ltd not continuing employment with the TOC so you are basically a new starter and resetting any redundancy terms, as will be on new T&C's. Depends on your pension you may be able to transfer in however.

2) normally at the interviews you can ask the salary you are looking for.... bare in mind they will also have a figure in mind. External entrants usually get more then the lower end, Internal promotion movers tend to get the bottom end.

What is the role for?

the role shows a minimum pay of the lowest from zone 1 and the highest is in zone 2.

Is it too cheeky to ask for a zone 3 pay?
