After waiting what felt like a millennia, seeing peers get on and start driving for them, SouthEastern have offered me an assessment day. Great!

However, 1.5 years ago I already completed these assessments with GTR, only to fail at the MMI stage.

As I understand it, the initial assessments are kept on a national database and you can circumvent these on application.

After Querying this I got an email saying since I failed MMI, I must start all over again.

Is this correct? Its contrary to what the assessor told me, I dont want to to rock the Apple cart but dont really want to resit if i dont have to!?

To my knowledge that is incorrect. The national assessment data is stored for 5 years, why else would this be stored. Maybe best to contact and talk to them directly

Depends on the TOC, some will just make you resit the one you failed, some will make you sit them all again. Also worth mentioning to others reading the thread that although you may have passed assessments for one TOC, they may not meet the "pass mark" for another TOC.

Whilst there is a national standard pass mark, the majority of TOCs require an enhanced standard, and the level they set apparently varies from TOC to TOC.

I'm just following up from a query you passed onto our Recruitment Admin on Wednesday.

I have had a look on the National Database and can see that you previously failed your MMI in October 2024 which is part of your assessment. Ultimately this means that you've failed your assessment for Trainee Train Driver.

You have one more attempt at the assessment which will be when you come in on Wednesday the 10th of October. You will need to re-sit the whole assessment. On the 10th you'll be doing your VTS, Paper Pencil Assessment and VSE, and then if you're successful then you'll be invited on a seperate day for your MMI.

I hope that answers your query and we look forward to meeting you then"

I failed an MMI test but had obviously passed all others to get to the MMI. When invited to retest by another company (standard pass mark), not only did I have to re-do the full suite of tests, but this company did them all in a day! I felt it was a big risk, as I could have failed on any of the tests that I had already passed. I went for it anyway, and thankfully passed. I felt I knew what to expect, which made me more at ease than the first time. I just made sure I practiced the tests I could practice, and prepared well for the MMI.

A TOC can require you to resit everything if that is their policy. It's up to you if you want to proceed with them and resit or scrap that application and try for a different operator that wouldn't want you to resit everything.

It's only if you have been unsuccessful with the OPC assessments twice it may affect your applications (depending on when your first took the psychometric assessments).

With company 1 - i have passed the medical and just waiting on a start date.

My only concern was that as I have failed twice with 2 different TOC's (1 at final driver manager interview and the other at SJT) - whether that would jeopardise my offer with Company 1

Random, but what's the dress code for the assessment centre?

What assessment are you going in for?

Track/offtrack/W&G - Casual. Jeans and a Tshirt is fine. I went smart and was grossly overdressed. Most were in trackies and hoodies.

S&T - jeans and shirt is fine.

Signalling/office - as smart as you can without being flashy. No tie bars, no cufflinks.

Don’t quote me on this but I think it’s up to the TOC if they want you to resit the assessments or not, just from what I’ve read on these forums anyway.

Southeastern also quite kindly go through an example question with you before you take the assessment if you're still unsure on the day. A lot of it is common sense stuff really so try your best to relax and not overthink it too much.

I and most I was testing with wore suit no tie. You can never dress too smart but you can dress not smart enough

I did not have an interview with my TOC as such, it was an assessment day and then the MMI interview. I would assume that the questions will be as above, probably a lot around safety and concentration as it is so important.
