Why are the tour buses not tracking on bustimes in Edinburgh?
They are, a recent bustimes update has made it so that buses track on the same trip for several days on end if there is no change in details which is why some look like they haven't tracked recently. I presume this is to save storage.

Only two buses being shown running on bustimes, both at just after 9 am athough they have been running all day.you never had this problem when they were shown under Bright Bus.

They are all definitely there, as displayed in this image.

I'd advise you to click on the other buses showing under yesterday and click map. The ones in service should show their location. They just track under the one from the previous day because they are on the same route with no change in destination.

The remaining 24 new Yutong E12s are due to arrive at Larbert over the next 2 weeks.
They will follow on from the first 6 as 5092-5115 and be registered SJ75XNX-Z/XOA-H/K-P/R-X.
The first examples are due in service on the improved frequency of service 38 (Falkirk-Stirling) from Monday 15th September.

A further two former First B7RLEs have recently gone to Clyde Metals - 2277 & 2286, along with former McGill’s (West) VDL SB200 6003 which had a brief flirtation with ’East’.

There are now only 4 of the many former First B7RLEs still lurking in the back of the depots- 2255, 2258, 2293 & 2303.

Surprised 2303 never had any further use or sold on

It was probably the oldest single deck bus still in use within the Group, by a good few years, so no real surprise it hasn’t seen further use with McGill’s. However, that’s not to say it may still have a life elsewhere.

Four of the new E12s entered service today - 5092/4/6/102.
A further 4 are expected to be in use tomorrow, although some may be involved in the planned launch events rather than in service.

I managed to photograph all 4 in service yesterday.
5107 passed Forth Valley Hospital on trade plates around 14:40 heading for Larbert, two other Yutongs were parked up at the chargers in the depot.
I then met 3 more Yutongs north of Cumbernauld on the M73. (SG25JNN, SJ75XOP & SJ75XOT)

Twelve now delivered - 5092/4/6-8/100/2/3/7/8/11/3.
5100/3 entered service today (joining the 4 from yesterday), whilst 5097/8 were used for the launch events in Falkirk and Stirling so quite likely they could be out tomorrow.

Back when the 38 ran Falkirk to Edinburgh; I assume it used to be every 30 minutes, then got increased to every 20 then I believe to every 15 but still using single deck vehicles, due to the two low bridges in Linlithgow. Is there a particular reason the frequency was increased but the route kept the same? Just looking at the map, it seems like they could come through Linlithgow then left onto Blackness Road, round the houses on Springfield Road, onto the M9, at Junction 3, off the M9 at Junction 1B, then you could do a loop or an out-and-back of Winchburgh and then the normal route on from there; that would skip the two low bridges and have allowed deckers to be used and the frequency to be kept lower - would this not have been cheaper? In terms of fewer vehicles and drivers required. It would have meant not serving Bridgend but the newly-served area of Linlithgow looks to be a greater area on the map so I would think be at least equal in population?

The history of the 38 is just as convolute as the midland Bluebird network during the 80s and 90s. Going back 25 years or so the service used to be Every Hour from Stirling to Edinburgh, with the section from Linlithgow to Edinburgh being every 20min however I do remember variations via Philpstoun etc I'm sure a few deckers were used as they never had low bridges on these different section? I think those were at peak times but it could be done. Before you ask there was extra Falkirk to Stirling 38C to make it every 30mins

However First managed to get bus route development grant and thus the Stirling to Edinburgh was Every 30mins, with Linlithgow to Edinburgh every 15mins. There was new housing planned but it never happened along that section of the route, thus it went back to every 20mins from Linlithgow to Edinburgh.

Once the New Forth Valley hospital opened the No38 become every 20mins from Stirling to Edinburgh, however the No60 was also extended to Falkirk so you have a bus every 10mins between Stirling and Falkirk. However No60s were scaled back and then it was changed so the No38 was every 15mins from Stirling to Linlithgow and we got to one point in 2017 where the roles had switched to Linlithgow to Edinburgh was only every 30mins..

Just in case anyone has mist it, most of the bus shelters from Stirling to Falkirk have been given new posters or vinyl's etc to help promote the No38

Ah, thanks for all that information. So it just seems like a lot of switching of frequencies presumably with the physical route staying the same.
It usually seems busy enough when I'm occasionally on it recently, at every 30 minutes. I don't really understand though how Linlithgow can sustain, even an hourly service also with the express train to Edinburgh, but Bo'ness and Grangemouth can only justify a bus every two hours despite neither having a train station, and said bus operating limited-stop (so the nearest stop will be on average further away from where people stay which will discourage use)?

I'm also mentally comparing the bus network to that in East Lothian. Bo'ness and Grangemouth are both close to a fast road into Edinburgh (M9) as is Haddington (A1, dual carriageway). The population of Haddington is only 10k but it gets a service every 20 minutes which takes the most direct route possible out of Edinburgh and then operates non-stop to Haddington. Whereas Bo'ness alone has a population of 15k, and Grangemouth another 16k. So combined they have a population over double that of Haddington, yet have only a bus every two hours which goes indirectly (direct road but calls at Edinburgh Airport)?

The travel time looks similar too; Google Maps says the outskirts of Haddington to Edinburgh centre takes around 33 minutes driving or 35 minutes by the express bus.
Outskirts of Bo'ness to Edinburgh centre, Google Maps says takes 30 minutes driving but, leaving at 1710 on a Saturday, by train then bus takes about 55 minutes, by direct bus also takes about 55 minutes, or by the X38 then F45 takes 1 hour and 20 minutes.

In my opinion places like Grangemouth and Bo'ness have more of an affinity with Falkirk rather than Edinburgh. The Stirling influence becomes stronger too. Whereas somewhere like Haddington is a market town in its own right with few nearby towns justifying travel other than Musselburgh or Edinburgh.
Linlithgow has traditionally been more West Lothian facing, which in turn tends to see Edinburgh as a source of larger amenities or employment. The idea of tying Linlithgow more closely to Livingston or Bathgate never seemed to take off. Technical difficulty with the A801 road might play a part, but these towns don't seem a natural fit anyway.

Definitely. Grangemouth and Bo’ness are effectively part of the Falkirk ‘urban area’ and people are used to travelling into Falkirk for work, entertainment, shopping etc.

It should also be noted that many of X7s which operate down the A1 had standing loads when it was every 30mins, with many of the passengers getting off at The Jewel for Asda or for Fort Kinnard retail park. So the actually numbers going into Edinburgh City centre are much lower, but the bus service is going where people want to go.... I know what a strange concept.

If we were to look at the other side of Edinburgh the closest we have is the Gyle, but it doesn't really compare. So people in Grangemouth and Bo'ness are going elsewhere and not using the bus. I dare say many people are probably jumping in their cars and driving to Livingston, it's a shame Sestran doesn't knock the council heads together and bring back the old 47 idea AKA Bo'ness - Linlithgow - Livingston.

People use the 909 from Bo'ness into Edinburgh too.

Falkirk - Bathgate - Livingston is another one.

What has happened to the double deckers on the 38?

The use of deckers which was not often, would be going back at least 25 years, when the route was different. Ie 38B: Linlithgow - Springfield - Philpston - Kirkliston - Edinburgh, and was not the main bus type of the route.

I read somewhere else that they’re planned to move onto the 51/52 & 56, which all interwork. I presume a few other deckers will join them on this, or that the 56 will be taken away from the interworking.

They had a very successful "depot day" yesterday, with big ques and alot of people, must have generated alot of good will. You were able to win alot of Bright bus stuff since they have been rebranded to Big bus, I dare say that's one way to get rid of your Excess Stock. If there any left they should take it Brighton event.

One note of interest, the timetables are getting printed as individual leaflets. In October they might be other "changes happening" it's unclear what they will be, but again those roadworks are not helping and the ones are the Football stadium area a joke.

There is talk on social media ( I know.. I know.. ) from 3rd December Air express is being axed? has anyone else seen this or heard anymore? IT would make more sense if it was getting rebranded...

Hopefully clarification is provided quickly - I'm leaning towards it being fake, given the dates essentially are identical to the withdrawal of the local network two years ago, and that seems too much a coincidence. Why would it end on a Wednesday? At the same time, it looks like its surrounded by two other notices at least, which would be some impressive effort for a prank.
Furthermore, do McGill's use historical branding internally? Is Eastern Scottish still used?

Still on the Livingston depot signage but will likely be changed at some point, Larbert got rebranded with the current logos and signage for the open day.
They took the Home of Bright Bus sign down from the signs at the gate and put up a Prentice Westwood sign, but left up the Eastern Scottish sign.

So that's the end of the AirX then, naturally the company has blamed the airport and other operators for it's demise. Not the multiple fare increases, cutback in timetable and extremely poor reliability.

IF the service is going (applying scepticism as there doesn't seem to be anything official) I wonder if they will inform Flixbus about this change? Because the memo certainly hasn't gotten to them yet that the timetable changed in March (they are still selling tickets for trips after 9pm/9.30pm which all got cut). Wouldn't be so bad but I know someone who has emailed McGills multiple times about this so that they could get it sorted with Flixbus.

You can still book past the stated date on the Bright Bus website.
