I pretty much ignore party affiliation for local elections, but for general elections it’s paramount, because the MP will be dragooned into voting along party lines anyway.I wonder though if party affiliation should be removed from the ballot paper. We elect individual MPs, but many people treat it as a popularity contest for party leaders. If they were just faced with a list of names, they'd have to do some research beforehand.
My general election vote is a combination of the two - in 2017 I might have voted for George Osborne but he stood down and was replaced by Esther McVey for whom I won’t vote.
