Earlier this year i redeemed a santander savings offer for a free 16-25 railcard. I followed all the steps listed on the santander website (https://www.santander.co.uk/personal/current-accounts/railcard-offer) and was issued my railcard without issue. I didn't realise when applying for it that the santander railcard is a 4-year card, meaning it doesn't expire until 2029, at which point I will be way past 25.

I've checked the santander website and all it says is:

To be eligible for the 4-year Santander Railcard, you must:

  • Be aged between 20 to 25 on 30 June 2025

I also know you can buy a 1 year 16-25 railcard on the eve of your 26th birthday so can in effect use it until the day before you're 27.

However can I use my railcard for it's full validity (until way in 2029) or is there a point I need to stop using it because my age will invalidate it?

You can use it for the full validity of the Railcard.

You can use your railcard until the date of expiry. Furthermore, 16-25 railcards can be obtained by those over 25 in full time education

It’s years ago now but I’m pretty sure I renewed mine the day before my 26th birthday and had another full year out of it. Perfectly allowed.

Coming back to the Santander free 4-year Railcard, there is absolutely nothing saying it expires when you turn a certain age.

It's somewhat of a loophole which I know a few people quite rightly took advantage of!

I don't think the railway minds. People with railcards travel more, and at times when the trains are quieter. They must do, given how heavily promoted railcards are.
