What are the driver perks with Eurostar? For example if you were to commute from Ashford on the Highspeed, is there any sort of discount on the ticket? Parking at the station (APCOA) I assume an annual season pass with them would have to be factored in?

No discounts as such; but we can claim the cost of tickets and station parking, up to about £4k a year, back from the company (though we receive it before tax so don't get the full amount!).

As I said you can claim the cost of parking at your local station along with the train fare for your journey to work.

I just saw in your post (when I read it properly!) and amended my post, probably when you posted again. Thanks for clarifying.

When I was researching, my rail season ticket would've come to more than the allowance, so the car park would have been on top at full price. So perhaps that's where I thought it wasn't included.

I have found out that buying a season ticket doesn't really make sense; we do 4 days a week on average, with lots of shifts being weekend or off peak times, I get daily tickets which total to not that much more than half the annual cost of a season ticket...

And of course you could consider getting Flexi Seasons for those days when you do commute at peak times, cutting the cost of those days by around 12.5% (you usually get 8 days for the price of 7). For off-peak or weekend travel a Network Railcard can cut the cost significantly too.

PTAC oyster immediately upon joining, RSL (leisure) priv and FIP after one year but, as mentioned above, no residential priv season ticket allowance for commuting.

For the first six months you’re on your own in terms of commuting, albeit interest free season ticket loans are available, then travel to work contributions kick in after six months to cover commuting costs. As noted they’re taxable, so represent less of a saving than the 75% priv discount, albeit still clearly a decent amount.

Swings and roundabouts but the (taxable) contribution to season ticket/work travel plus PTAC oyster will benefit those who live close to/in London and use the tube regularly. It’s less good perhaps for people in places like Ashford commuting on HS1 where you’ll be paying a lot more for a season ticket, and may be better off buying off peak tickets etc.

That said quite a few do indeed do similar commutes to this as they consider the work/salary on offer justify it. Especially when you take into account cheaper housing costs away from London.

Various other benefits including salary sacrifice bike and electric car schemes, discounted BUPA etc. also need to be factored in when considering the overall package.
