Saw them by eye at Clapham Junction and yes it's 37800 + 5856 + 5862

That’s good. There is something of a backlog to clear, especially if more 701s can be brought out of storage.

Glad I got 5856 on one of its last days in service, on 9th August when it was out on Readings. Wasn’t it a bearing failure that caused its withdrawal 2 days later?
When was 5862 last in service?

I have down the last day for 5862 in passenger service as 27.08.25

5856 did have a bearing failure as far as I'm aware, but if anyone can correct me please do

I think it is 52, although I am not 100% certain about 5708 which was last in passenger service on 13.04.25. Of the other 51, the longest out of use is now 5727 which failed at Upper Halliford on 15.08.25

As quoted upthread; maybe there's no space at Newport at the moment
There's a move from Southeastern's Gillingham EMU Depot to Newport on Thursday. Newport typically gets up to two drags a week across all operators and that one likely prevents a 2nd SWR run operating this week.

Haven’t seen so many scrap previously, as many new trains been entering service and Newport space consuming so quickly

there isn't space currently, 5848, 5853, 5856, 5862 are all awaiting disposal in newport, but when those units get scrapped then there might be another drag

This may well be the case at Wimbledon as well. Units awaiting scrap moves clogging up the shorter (than 10 car) length sidings, another reason the 5 car 701's won't appear until later in the scheme of things perhaps?

Does anyone have a list of 455s currently withdrawn? I know that 5851 is withdrawn but I thought that if 5851 is going for scrap soon then surely it has a classmate also going for scrap with it.
