36 years apart of course - give or take.Odd seeing how domineering and study looking the Leeds-bound gantries are at Colton Junction compared to those heading to London.
Only if you have hours to kill. Time it right, and you can do Bradford-Sheffield in under 90 minutes via Leeds (including the change at Leeds). Halifax-Meadowhall would be via Penistone, unless the Crigglestone Curve reopened (it’s not on a reopening list that I’ve seen).Bit off topic but I wonder if when all the new through platforms are in ready some Bradford - Hudds trains could join with the Sheffield sevice to recreate part of the South Yorkshireman express.
Bradford/ Halifax/ Meadowhall/ Sheffield avoiding Leeds would seem a profitable touted.

Lots of people including me dred changing at Leeds, nicer ride vua Pennitone too.Only if you have hours to kill. My map has the updated interim layout. They didn't waste any time there!
Out of interest, does anyone have a track diagram for the 'interim' layout in the
Hudderfield area from October onwards?
(I've seen a few diagrams showing the proposed final layout in 2027,
but nothing which covers this Autumn's rationalisation)

It was clearly stated that the Penistone line trains have been kept separate deliberately to avoid the TPE timetable separate from the Sheffield timetable which apparently is a complete mess anyway. There was consideration to using the Penistone line as part of the through lines out of the station but that required including the Penistone trains in the timetable with the knock on need to be part of the Sheffield timetable.Bit off topic but I wonder if when all the new through platforms are in ready some Bradford - Hudds trains could join with the Sheffield sevice to recreate part of the South Yorkshireman express.

Hi,
I few pictures I took yesterday (saturday, 6th September 2025) of the missing bridge over John William Street in Huddersfield. They were just dropping in the last pre-cast concrete seats on top of the bridge abutment on the eastern (Leeds) end. Western (station) side is still to do. They are working really quickly because the last bits of the old bridge only came out a few days ago.
Possibly not helping accessibility?Hi,
[…]
Notes for accessibility. 7 phones.
Maybe but I think its about having fewer interfaces between different organisations and also ground conditions being different.I know it's not directly comparable, but it's absolutely mind blowing to compare the speed of this underbridge
widening/replacement to the long running farce of the Botley Road fiasco at Oxford!
I wonder if lessons have been learned?

Yes, in principle nothing will need to change here regarding buried utilities under the road, because they’re not intending to alter the height clearance by lowering any roads?Maybe but I think its about having fewer interfaces between different organisations and also ground conditions being different.
Everytime you pull a bridge out the hole looks far larger than the bridge you take out or are about to put in. Surprises me every time I am on site during a bridge renewal.Hi,
I few pictures I took yesterday (saturday, 6th September 2025) of the missing bridge over John William Street in Huddersfield. They were just dropping in the last pre-cast concrete seats on top of the bridge abutment on the eastern (Leeds) end. Western (station) side is still to do. They are working really quickly because the last bits of the old bridge only came out a few days ago. New bridge deck is still in the car park.
They are working almost 24 hours a day, so a lot happens. New bridge deck going in on the 14th apparantly (but all to change, and could be in the middle of the night)
No signs of the single metal span being removed on Fitzwilliam street, which is right next to the now missing bridge.
There are new staircases up to track level near to the Bradford road bridge and diggers on the viaduct. But no sign of activity. So not sure what is happening there.
There is a new over the lines signal gantry to the east end of the viaduct. Not sure when it appeared. Sorry I didn't get a picture.
The Sportsman pub are posting daily updates on their instagram (thesportsmanhud) and facebook. Also really worth visiting for a pint.

Notes for accessibility. 7 phones. There is a gap where there was a road bridge. There is a scaffolding services bridge in the gap, about 1 wide. With a large crane lifting in a pre-cast concrete bridge sheet to fit onto the top of the abutment.
One picture shows the yard behind the station, with a much smaller crane.
The bridge is much wider than you imagine it to be.
The North Yorkshire link you quote seems to be brokenNot as much as the surprise when there is a 200mm gap after the bridge has gone in. OOPS

That's why they need the bridge in so quickly. So they can make enough platform to fit a train. New platform 2 looks really wide. (I was expecting the old platform 4 face to move in, not old plaform 1 (new platform 2)The new Platform 2 edges can clearly be seen virtually in the middle of the old layout, and will be extended out over the viaduct
I was assuming the same. But might be to do with the roof supports.I don’t know about Oxford. But this Huddersfield bridge has been years in the planning. The public enquiry was in 2021.
Lots of exploratory work going on for years (It's a bridge I drive or walk under most weeks).
They've had years to perfect the plans

Or to get the best alignment (ie least and smoothest curve radius) for the new platform face at the Leeds end?I was assuming the same. But might be to do with the roof supports.

Might be because there's not much curve into P4 (new P3) from the Manchester end as well, so trains can arrive and depart very slightly quicker.Or to get the best alignment (ie minimum curve radius) for the new platform face at the Leeds end?
Yes it is getting extended at the Leeds endI notice from the latest Sarah Bell YouTube vid that the new alignment of Platform 2 curves in a little at the Manchester end I presume the former Platform 4 will do likewise when trimmed back allowing access to the new platforms on the north side. Is the train shed getting extended at the Leeds end?
The plan in #9532 suggests the new P3 alignment, although shorter, will still likely be straight at the Manchester end, theres a set of points with a line appearing to head west in a straight line. (Although it’s not an accurate engineering drawing it’s probably enough to give an idea?)I notice from the latest Sarah Bell YouTube vid that the new alignment of Platform 2 curves in a little at the Manchester end I presume the former Platform 4 will do likewise when trimmed back allowing access to the new platforms on the north side.
