If I wanted to travel from Rhyl to Wrexham does the 51 and X51 already operate as a through service?

I'm getting conflicting information online. Arriva saying the 51 and X51 connect for through journeys, Welsh government saying through service doesn't start until end of September and bustimes.org saying that I need to change at Denbigh but M & H Coaches operate some of the journeys.

I'd be wanting to use a Arriva day ticket for Wales zone for the journey.

Looking at the tracking for the X51, through the day it seems that all vehicles that run the X51 then continue on as a 51

For ticketing purposes, they are likely to count as separate journeys, so you might need to rescan your ticket at Denbigh, but the buses do run through so you won't be in danger of missing a connection.

In terms of it being a jointly operated route, M&H run the 0730 from Denbigh to Ruthin, and that appears to be it, everything else is run by Arriva.

The X51 does operate through, it changes number in Denbigh to 51/51B, i've been on it a few times from Wrexham through to Rhyl, ask the driver when you board if your unsure.

Also no, you don't need to rescan your ticket when the bus changes number, Arriva have a few routes in North Wales that change number but operate as a through route, & i've never been asked to rescan my ticket.

Arriva routes change number but continue through to avoid the 30 mile limit restrictions.

Above correct, every two hours one of the 51s from Rhyl continues from Denbigh through to Ruthin and Wrexham as an X51.

The WG statement I suspect relating to the 'new' T51 as the route will join the TrawsCymru brand, but this will in effect just replace the 51/X51 (albeit with additional journeys for the Denbigh - Wrexham section). If travelling later in September onwards look out for that route number instead.

Believe the Arriva Day ticket is valid for the entire journey without needing to rescan, as would be the 1bws ticket covering operators across N Wales too.

Thanks guys so I just get on a 51 at Rhyl that gets to Denbigh a few minutes before an X51 to Wrexham is due to depart (to Wrexham they are every 2 hours) and it will take me through to Wrexham (changing to X51 enroute without the need to change buses) and it will be operated by Arriva. (I'll be well clear of that one early morning journey operated by another company). Perfect.

Yep, from Rhyl the first 51 is 06.20 then 08.18 & every 2 hours until 14.18 then 16.23, buses wait a few minutes in Denbigh before changing to X51 through to Wrexham.

Rather bizarrely there is a 21.50 Denbigh to Wrexham, but that does not start at Rhyl, last through bus Rhyl to Wrexham is 16.23.
