On Tuesday 30th Sept will be travelling by train to and from Okehampton to watch Argyle play Torridgeside. Is there a short-cut through St Boniface and over the river or will we have to go the long way round? We're all OAPs and worried about the trek back up the hill to make the last train back to Exeter [22.19?]

Not a local so willing to be corrected, but this "thing I found on the internet" indicates that there is a shortcut: https://osm.mathmos.net/prow/progress/devon/west-devon/okehampton/
This page shows a map and table of the Public Rights of Way (Public Footpaths, Bridleways, Restricted Byways, and Byways Open to All Traffic) in the parish/area of Okehampton, in the district of West Devon, in the county of Devon. Data from the Surveying Authority (Devon ) is compared with the data in OpenStreetMap.

The OS 1:25000 map shows a footbridge (FB) and a footpath up to Station Road (short green dashes), but the contour lines suggest it's quite steep. The top of the footpath is visible on the Google Street view of Station Road.

'Googling'suggests that Torridgeside AFC play in Torrington- maybe some further investigation required?

There are two bridges across the river and paths up to the station from Simmonds Park - but are very steep - you'll need gas and air when you reach the top! The westernmost bridge and the path by the 'Swiss Chalet' is slightly the better. However they are earth / gravel surface with intermitent steps and unlit - I wouldn't recommend stumbling around in the dark.
