SWR ‘Additional Train to Waterloo’

Hi

I was travelling from Wimbledon to Waterloo yesterday (Fri 29th Aug 25) at @ 17:07 at platform 5 it was announced to stand back as the train approaching platform 5 does not stop here.

Only it did and the doors were released and customers both alighted and boarded.

The guard announced that this was an additional train.

It was an Arterio 701 044 and arrived into Platform 18 at Waterloo at @ 17:24ish.

I’ve never come across SWR additional trains before let alone travel on one.

Checking opentraintimes (map) for a Headcode only showed an old Headcode for an outbound service to Dorking at the London end berth and I think 2O53 ? At the country end berth.

I’m thinking it may have been an Arterio training path where perhaps the crew felt confident to operate in passenger service.

Otherwise does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge about this mysterious additional SWR service?

It was 1D50 16:32 Dorking to Waterloo which is a VAR variation this week

There is also a cancelled 5D50 VST listed in real time trains to Clapham Junction yard which has same time at Wimbledon

I was the suburban controller Friday evening so can tell you exactly why

Overnight 1D50 was planned to terminate at Raynes Park and go empty to Clapham Yard to berth but we were short of a unit to form a Windsor side service so i requested it to continue in service to Waterloo. So as far as the info system was concerned it was an additional service
