Depends what you are giving up to go I suppose. It’s a risk, but surely if they need drivers you’d be in the perfect position should you do a good job of course

It's far more dependent on whether they win/retain further Network Rail contracts - this role takes you through the autumn season and probably some of the de-icing work in winter.

I am sure that they will do their best to retain you if you've been a good employee, but only if they have sufficient work.

Freight and departmental work like this has always been very much dependent on how good their business development team is at winning or keeping work, especially at operators like GBRf that don't necessarily have a lot of the legacy contracts from years ago.

I know people that started as RHTT operators and then were given full time shunter jobs after. Some of those shunters have since gone driving. All depends how you get on and where they need people. It's not an automatic thing but it can and has been done.

Do you know roughly what the roster is like for RHTT?

Might be different depending on area but from what I saw it was Monday to Friday, mostly nights, and long jobs.

The role is to operate the spray equipment NOT driving, usually the FOCs contracted the role in but it seems GB want to take it inside this time.

In that case, perhaps less chance of any progression, but you never know.

Any hands on operational role especially with a FOC is definitely worth going for, at the end of the day they spend money training you so they’ll ideally want to get their monies worth that’s not going to happen on a short six month contract.

Even if you are let go initially at least, there is good chance they’ll chase you for another job at some point:

Contract is just over 3 months.

That doesn’t give much time to train the person and do any courses they may need like pts…
They technically aren't ground staff/shunters and therefore do a very basic course. About a week if I remember correctly. Mostly company induction, PTS and learning how to operate the equipment.
