Just a correction is that Northern aren't running 2 trains an hour between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street the other service is run by Trans Pennine Express and only calls at Warrington Central and Liverpool South Parkway...
Don't many of these TPE services (not calling at Stockport during the blockade) still call intermediately at Urmston, Irlam and/or Birchwood?

I think you're looking at a weekend. Northern are running 2 trains an hour between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington Central today: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/se...5/0200-0159?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt&toc=NT

Yes the TPE Liverpool-Cleethorpes service is still calling at Birchwood, Irlam and Urmston.

All well and good for train travellers, but just think of the many months still to come that local road travellers will still be without this major road layout in the middle of Stockport.
Are they not coping with it then? posts 98 and 110 seem to suggest its not a significant issue.

"Coping with it" needs to understand the disruption to rail traffic was only for a period of three weeks whereas the disruption to road traffic was for a far longer period of 12 months.
To be fair there was also work done by the railway in connection with the bridge replacement in the blockade over christmas , a 3 day blockade at easter and there is another short blockade planned for later in the year I think .

The disruption to the road is to be expected given this wasn't in terms of road layout a simple road over rail bridge , it houses a roundabout .

But from what people have said on here and anecdotally the few times I have visited stockport since the road closure it doesn't seem to be causing too much traffic disruption people have largely got used to it being closed and the alternative routes .

Stockport County's Edgeley Park football ground is very near the railway station normally and League One matches have good attendances, but for most of this current season until early next year, this road roundabout closure completely disrupts the normally direct route for away supporters travelling to Stockport by train who normally just have a short walk from the station to the ground.

The next rail blockade for work on the Greek Street bridge is on Saturday 4th October and Sunday 5th October.

The real question today for a much wider population is "Are they on track to have the railway working again by tomorrow morning?"
As for the effect on locals, it looks as thoughthe pedestrian and cycle routes aren't too much of a problem and station entrances do not seem to be affected.

Unless they have changed the layour of the road closures whilst theyve been replacing the bridge deck last time I went out that side of the station about 8 weeks ago you would have been no slower walking to Edgely park , you can get round on that side pretty easilly down the footpath behind the primary school . Or straight onto Castle street around the hoarding put up .

From the Edgely entrance of stockport station to the Edgely park football ground, the diversion route via Bengal Street Mossley Street and Newton Street doesn't seem much different in length from the route via the roundabout.

Is everything still good to hand this back at 05:00 tomorrow?
The answer is yes according to official sources.
Popped my drone up and I agree they are pretty much ready for a railway reopening. Still a decent amount to do above though, just a big concrete deck at the moment! Similar to Agar Grove on the MML where the railway closure was over much less time than the local road closure.

OLE looks in place and nothing's down to protect the track. Looks like an RRV of some description is still down there.

Thank you for these. Disappointing to see that the central pier is still in place, despite the visualisation video suggesting that it would be removed. Are the columns still supporting the bridge structure, I wonder?

Hard to tell but it does look like the new bridge is above the existing central column. I'd be surprised if a significant design alteration was made this late. Maybe it will be removed in a later posession.

Why is the presence of a central pier disappointing?

see posts 61 +/-5. I was laughed at for saying I couldn't imagine money being spent taking out a big concrete slab if there was no immediate ["BR"] use for the space.

This drawing is from March so might be out of date. The green central pier (I stand corrected, a pier not a column!) is shown as being removed so it's not the CGI artists getting something wrong. The top must have been taken off as part of the rest of the works. I guess there was maybe they were falling behind on the program so decided to skip it? Or there was a semi-recent change to the program since the CGI video to either leave it or remove at a later date.

The space occupied by the central pier is said to constitute the "passive provision" for a future Metrolink line through the cutting in that its removal would allow one additional running line to be provided.

To clarify by a design alteration I meant to keep the pier as load bearing for the new deck when this wasn't planned previously. The drawings only show the pier being demolished and not the foundation. The foundation supports a signal gantry at the south end.

Also to clarify I have no connection to the project so I'm just speculating from what I can see in the drawings.

Very much passive if they were planning to leave the whole foundation in place and just take the pier on top out!

I think there’s at least enough detail in those videos to say the remaining parts of the central pier are not supporting anything.
but I am amazed that most of that bit of the old structure has been left in situ, even the columns - especially when we were told that it was all going. Maybe they will come down later but to my mind they leave an unnecessary collision hazard and cut down the chance of trapped on-track staff getting away from a moving train.

Presumably it is so the signalling can be left intact and the line can be reopened as quickly as possible. Resignalling is going to have to be tackled eventually, but clearly that is a much bigger job! Metrolink would come in from the Altrincham line so the main lines will have to be shifted as well.

I questioned this before work started. Apparently no track layout alterations are proposed at this stage.

Should any layout alterations be needed in the future, removal of the pier base would not affect the bridge,

The good news is that everything seems to be running properly through Stockport according to RTT. I didn't think to look earlier, but thankyou whoever did the planning and to the people who got it done on time.
