0701 Northern Leeds-York provides a robust connection into the Aberdeen service at York. Most people wouldn’t class a 7 minute earlier departure as a “loss of all connectivity”.
You are of course assuming it runs, but the removal of this train along the return 1E30 means Leeds based traincrews will not be signing Micklefield/Church Fenton... just when it gets "wired" Leeds/York and I'm stumped if any known Milford/Ferrybridge/Askern, that went by the (good)by(e) long ago.

1E30 diverts via Castleford some nights as Leeds staff retain that diversionary knowledge, along with via Methley from Hare Park Jn from the South. I imagine there will be ways of retaining the knowledge via ECS moves to/from Neville Hill & York

It'll go by default. I'm also stumped as to why you would also send a set from York to Neville Hill or vice versa come DEC 25? Doncaster is home of the mothership.

The 225s are maintained and serviced at Neville Hill. At the moment any ECS workings to/from York have to go the long way round via Doncaster and reverse.

There wont be any 225s to York in the new timetabl.

Assuming lack of wires is the only reason they can't go that way. Gauging issues might still prevent the direct route between York and Leeds being used.

Class 91 drags via this route?
Mk4s have been dragged York to Leeds several times.

Yes there will. The overnight stabler in platform 7 for 1Y01 the 04.40, but that's it. Still no need for it to run from Leeds to York though.

I stand corrected. I understood it was Leeds only.
These two eventually form 1Y01 as referred to above and operate to / from Newcastle

Great improvement into Scottish connections into/out of Norwich EMR services at Peterborough and back to how it was before the Eureka timetable of 2011.
However Northbound Kings Cross to Leeds and to Edinburgh services will call at Peterborough at the same time as the Cross Country train arrives from Cambridge and Southbound Leeds and Edinburgh to Kings Cross services will call at Peterborough at the same time as the Cross Country train departs for Cambridge. Connections at Peterborough between LNER and Cross Country services for Cambridge will surely be impossible and anyone travelling from Cambridge to Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh will probably be better off connecting with the Leeds and Newcastle trains that call at Stevenage rather than waiting an hour at Peterborough.

Lumo train services also call at Stevenage so Stevenage will provide a lot of useful connections with long distance train services on the East Coast Mainline.

That’s a pity but I suppose they’ll always be winners and losers.

That really is rubbish. Cambridge and Stansted must be the two primary destinations for folk changing from the ECML at Peterborough.

What about the Norwich line? Maybe not as important but I often have travelled Edinburgh to Norwich and mostly it currently ends up with a 50 minute wait at Peterborough. Haven't checked from December but hopefully the connection is improved.

Looks like 37/38 mins on average.

Edinburgh to London semi-fast arrives Peterborough XX:09; Liverpool to Norwich departs Peterborough XX:46 or XX:47.

It's a tradition on the East Coast Mainline which is being maintained, rather than anything new.

For example, in the current timetable I have got the 2100 from Cambridge which isn't a valid connection into the 2100 from King's Cross at Peterborough. On many continental railways, a way would be found for the train from Cambridge to arrive at PBO earlier, and have a wait there to allow connections both ways. However, we do not do that sort of thing here, and that is unlikely to ever change. I did once make the connection, by being at the optimal door and dashing up and down the stairs, saving over an hour off the journey time.

There are many more examples of connections being poor on the ECML; I suspect that where connections are made, it is more by accident than design (or some diligent planners being able to implement such connections, despite their being no apparent industry-wide commitment or desire to do so).

I know of a former planner who left Network Rail as he didn't want to move to Milton Keynes, who has been very scathing of various aspects of recent ECML timetables and the lack of connections.

So it's nothing materially different to what has gone on before. It would take a national policy change for such connections to be maintained, which is beyond the scope of this thread.

Very much journeys London to Leeds / York / Newcastle / Edinburgh being the priority rather than all the intermediate journeys, or at least thats what it looks like, I'm afraid.

Interchange between the ECML and East Anglia at Peterborough has been significant ever since the long distance direct trains via the Joint Line stopped running in 1973. In 2025 I have spent too much time looking at the relevant data from the flows matrix.

Cambridge is easily the most important. It has one way flows over 10k for all of Edinburgh, York and Leeds. I estimate that the total for Cambridge to/from all ECML destinations is more than 50k. This means that, of the passengers who board a Stansted-Birmingham train at Cambridge, more change at Peterborough for the ECML than go through to destinations Stamford-Birmingham.

The Norwich flows are just a bit more than half the Cambridge flows, with Edinburgh, York and Leeds all about 6k.

The mix to/from Stansted is different, more dominated by shorter journeys. For Stansted, Lincoln is third biggest ECML destination after Leeds and York, and for Lincoln the Stansted flows are bigger than Cambridge or Norwich.

And a route that can get overlooked is Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds. I reckon that, of the passengers arriving at Peterborough on a train from Ipswich, up to half are changing for the ECML.

However, the numbers are still small when compared with the ECML flows to/from Kings Cross.

It is also worth noting that Peterborough itself has about 45k journeys to Leeds and about 40k journeys to each of York, Newcastle and Edinburgh. What we don't know is how many of those have driven quite long distances across East Anglia to get to Peterborough. My hunch is that it is in the thousands.

This could be a blessing in disguise. There is a lot more capacity between Cambridge and Stevenage than between Cambridge and Peterborough.

I did see the 1N09 14:33 KGX-NCL service has been VAR'd on 17th December to be an Azuma as it forms off 1E09 from Edinburgh, does that mean the plan for 91s to Newcastle is over or is it just that week?

As previously stated multiple times, the overnight stabler will be the only booked 91 to York under normal diagrams.

Unless I’m missing something here, these two posts don’t quite line up?
Those heads codes is the service which terminates at York, stables and then works south in the morning, so they do line up.

Ah okay. So the 14:33 Newcastle is not going to be a 91/225?
Nothing has been 100% confirmed regards 91s north of York, last I heard from LNER sources a few weeks ago, was that no final decision had been taken.

I would work on the basis that '43302' is correct, based on how things currently stand.
