Severe disruption today which seemed to start with what was initially attributed to a broken down train at or near Hyndland station at around 11am and still ongoing at almost 6pm with further disruption confirmed into the evening. But subsequently confirmed by Scotrail as a failure of the power supply at Partick station.
Purely anecdotal, but on the occasions I’m travelling on the low level via Queen St there seems to be frequent cancellations centred around Partick/Hyndland which is the choke point for 12 trains per hour in both directions serving the North Clyde (to Helensburgh , Balloch and Milngavie), Glasgow city centre low level lines via both Central and Queen St, then extending out extensively to Lanarkshire and as far a Bathgate and Edinburgh. Indeed Bathgate also suffered from overhead damage today further compounding the significant inconvenience.
There have been repeated failures in the last couple of years around Partick and I wonder if Network Rail are focusing enough attention to overall resilience at this key location. Of course, I’m assuming today’s power failure was under their jurisdiction and not a wider area power failure. It isn’t clear yet but failures at Partick/Hyndland cause significant disruption across the Greater Glasgow area.
