The original plan was December. Pretty sure they could get a few drivers competent by then .
And Train Managers, and catering teams, and station teams.

Also the depot teams.

That's still quite a few people to get trained, when at the moment (not actually confirmed officially) they only have one unit at Etches Park.

Oh I don't necessarily think it will , but definitely was a diagram pencilled in .

Thank you, is that the case for 9 car units as well or do 9 car units use both transformers?
The 9 car units don’t have a 25kV busline either, so you’ll only see one pantograph raised and one transformer in use.

One day the Auroras will enter service. I recall they had to maintain the same timings on diesel power as electric. By the time they enter service, the OHLE south of Bedford will all have been upgraded.
South-of-Bedford OLE upgrade is now complete; however the 100mph cap on electric traction has an undefined stay of execution, for reasons I'm trying (and failing) to understand.

What's the high voltage line for that runs at the top centre of each carriage? I thought this was the 25kV bus line? There's what looks like a bus bar linking it to the pantograph on the driving vehicles.

A path activated for today for a Merchant Park to Etches Park Move, possibly 810009.
Path from RTT attached below 5Q30 08:28 Merchant Park to Etches Park
Thanks for the heads up. Confirmed 810009 is on this.

Didn't see it picked up here but it looks like an Old Dalby based 810 was out and about last week overnight, getting as far south as Luton

Today seems like today's plan is test running Old Dalby-Bedford-Leicester-Luton-Old Dalby

Sadly not a chance - signalling failure at Wigston - it’s a right mess!

I take that back - it looks like they’ve been able to run.

It wasn't planned to go via Wigston, but via Oakham.
RTT seems to think it reached Bedford and headed back north towards Leicester via Harborough as 5Q32
Data doesn't look particularly trustworthy so would suggest an eyeball is needed to confirm.

Just arriving at Leicester apparently. Hopefully it'll still be there in 10 minutes but seeing as its in platform 1 and I'm due to be on 1 it has to be doubtful.

Does that mean that the problems with overheating wiring and not working in tandem have been fixed?
10 car working still needs all the relevant testing to be carried out by Hitachi.

These 2 units are the first to be leased by EMR which enables proper driver and other crew training to commence.

As for over heating wiring, as long as it has been replaced at the factory on these units, then yes, sorted.

At the risk of overlapping with the "stopgap options" speculation, does this apparent progress end the need for stopgaps?
Any genuinely informed news going around within EMR?

i.e. get the crews into training, lose a few 7-car to Lumo in September, accept that Oct/Nov is probably going to be... challenging... and then hope to get a few 810s slotted into what are currently 7-car diagrams before Christmas?

(At the risk of being cynical, if 222s are heading to Lumo and there aren't enough to run the service, the crews from the cancelled services can be used to accelerate training. It's a genuine win-win!)

Which looks like it started today but only got as far as Nottingham due to a fatality at Kettering.

810008 is allocated to the same journeys today

So just to test my understanding (and perhaps to summarise for those that aren't following every twist and turn of the soap opera), there are now 2 different 810 test/training operations
- 3AXX based around Derby that are units that have been accepted by EMR, and these are operated by EMR (crew training etc.)
- 5QXX based out of Old Dalby that are units still owned by Hitachi(?) and doing testing etc., prior to handover

Not sure whether both have run on the same day yet, the Old Dalby ones seem to have been cancelled for today.

You stop yourself now! How dare you talk sense!
Shame. We all secretly look forward to a good old crisis with decrepit cast-offs and heritage trains being press-ganged into frontline service.

I wouldnt call that a win-win if timetabled passenger trains are cancelled. It means that yet again the railway industry has failed the customers as, despite sky high fares, the service just isn't being offered.
