Did notice a difference in speed (was on 807004 today) as we left Watford Junction, we seemed to be going slightly faster than 110mph until we were held at Cheddington and Leighton Buzzard for a good few minutes due to a trespassing incident at Bletchley.
It’s not possible to do more than 110mph at the moment since the latest software update a couple of months ago. You can only input 110 and the speed limiter will keep you at 109/110: I’ve yet to see the speed exceed 110 in over a year of driving them.

Sign being uncovered along the route but some driver briefings outstanding.
To my knowledge, no drivers at Avanti have had any briefing/road learning regarding MU speed operations. The "overspeed" mitigation measures have not been discussed. Unless someone can confirm differently?

That is my understanding too.

Seems these are suffering allready!
Plenty of armrests with missing screws, failed lighting and glitching displays on show!

The armrests on these and the refurbished 390s are cheap trash. They wear easily, are pencil thin and are too low to even be used by anyone above 6ft without slouching.

I find few armrests are ever high enough to fit me sat up "properly", but the seat back being too small doesn't help either.

Doubt Avanti will manage their target of mid-September for it all…

I see that there are MU speeds for units to travel up to 125 between sections of Rugby to Birmingham, but I assume that the 805/807s are sticking to 110 on this route for now?

I believe they are still hard-limited to 110mph by the Automatic Speed Limiter.

They can’t do the MU speeds on these sections either currently.

class 805/807 (& non tilt class 390s) cannot run to any MU speed profiles at this moment.

That is my understanding too.
Introduction of the Driver Advisory System is a key element of current productivity talks, but the MU speed operations are not. It looks like the operators aim is to use the DAS to enable MU speed running. (Presumably with the blessing of the DfT / ORR) However, the two subjects are not mutual in productivity discussions. There is also the the fact that the DAS needs to be made fully functional & drivers need to be trained in some form on its operation as it was not part of the initial traction training. There seems little point in road learning the MU speed profiles whilst the system of working is yet to be established. Taking all this into consideration I predict the MU speed boards will be a bit dirty by the time the Evero fleet can run to them.

Did they specify a year though?

GPS works on 80x units but not pendolinos or class 220/1.
To clarify, GPS is one of four satellite positioning systems available. The latest receivers that can process all four simultaneously are called GNSS devices.

The latest Racelogic GNSS devices work very well in most trains including 390's especially when connected to a high-gain antenna as close the window as possible. However trains with a metallic UV reflective layer in the window glass reduce the signal strength available. Class 22x are the worst with very weak signals.

On the odd unit there appears to have been a 'blown' window pane that is blurry to look through but seems to allow better GPS/ GNSS signal.
I also discovered that the emergency window panes on some trains seem to be slightly different and allow a bit more GPS/ GNSS signal in.
Of course the vestibule glass is good for GPS signal on 22x, but not an ideal place to stand for several hours unless you sit on a tip down seat on a 222.
CAF class 196/197 / 397 window glass does seem to allow a bit more signal into the train than the glass on 22x, but the signal tends to be noisy and speed / position data is not as clean and calculated speeds can jump around by a few mph.

At the recent Railway Performance Society Timing Event class 807s did not exceed 100 mph between Rugby and Birmingham.

This would agree with the measurement I took earlier in the year.
This was the speed profile from Coventry to London on 1B52, 2nd April 2025 with 807004.
Even the 350s can go at 110 between Coventry and Rugby but it seems that the 807s cannot.

The 805s appear to have been removed from the Birmingham diagram that includes the 15.16 from Euston; since Tuesday last week it's been solid 390 territory. Were they covering for low availability of 390s until last week? ( I note that 390 043 is back in traffic after the recent buffer bash ).

I hear that some of Avanti's Hitachi fleet have had their Shops out of use due to a door fault. Any more info please?

The end-state deployment map I posted upthread (https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...5-807s-hitachi-at300-sets.214752/post-6660417) suggests the idea is 2 805s running a day to Blackpool.

Of course, Shrewsbury is a bit out of date. However, the service which used to start in the morning at Shrewsbury is actually operated by a pair of 805s, with the evening equivalent going over to 2*805 operation in mid September. This is down to Euston-Birmingham increasing back to its pre-COVID frequency of 3tph all day until 19:00 southbound and 20:00 northbound, which will also see all of the Euston-Birmingham semifast services operated by 80x until the service reduces in frequency in the evenings, as confirmed by using the Avanti booking site to view the allocated type of train.
Can you recall which of the xx21/xx16 stoppers are not booked 80x?

These are to the best of my knowledge, for weekdays between May and September:

Northbound:
  • 06:16 EUS-BHM
  • 07:16 EUS-GLC
  • 08:16 EUS-BHM
  • 11:16 EUS-BHM
  • 12:16 EUS-BHM
  • 16:16 EUS-BHM
Southbound:
  • 10:21 BHM-EUS
  • 08:00 GLC-EUS (12:21 ex-BHM)
  • 08:52 EDB-EUS (13:21 ex-BHM)
  • 14:21 BHM-EUS
  • 18:21 BHM-EUS
  • 14:52 EDB-EUS (19:21 ex-BHM)
  • 15:57 GLC-EUS (20:21 ex-BHM)

For Saturday's, it's mostly 80x-operated, with only a couple 390s during the day.

I might have made a mistake, but I hope this helps!

I travelled on 807007 on Saturday and noticed the shop was closed although fully stocked and both the doors at that end had "Our of use" stickers on them. No announcements about lack of shop were made. Thought it strange at the time.

I'm currently having my first trip on an 805 and so far it's far more pleasant than the GWR version.
I think Avanti's choice of seating makes a big difference! The reclined back and tilted seat base makes all the difference, IMO, to the almost right-angle ones LNER and GWR use!
