For me it's definitely interesting enough, however, from a steam enthusiast's point of view, the main attraction, 4464 Bittern, has left, though fortunately for an overhaul. The other locos are good in there, but the static locos besides the Hall class are basically an example of everything that has come down Kent rails for the last 5 years. If they get a Merchant Navy to visit, it's basically a full bingo sheet.

For £25, the items on display should reflect that price. What would sell this event to me is that there is confidence that some of the Steam loco footplates are at the very least visitable, especially as they are cold, and that there is a variety of exhibits of interest and stands selling other things than OO gauge such as, for example, railwayana.

It might be an event to consider if there is steam bans down here by August if there is no effective amounts of rain soon.

THIS WEEKEND!!

The Hornby WonderWorks/One One Collection Open Weekend takes place this Saturday and Sunday (August 9th/10th) at Hornby Hobbies, Westwood Trading Estate, Margate.

Open from 09:30 - 16:00 both days, admission by ticket only. Tickets available online or on the day.

This is a rare opportunity to view the FULL One One collection and will also be the LAST chance to see all four cars of 4732 together for several years as vehicles will shortly be leaving for refurbishment on a rotating basis.

In addition to all the attractions on the link we will also have our sales stand on site offering a wide range of merchandise and other items for sale to aid our restoration fund. Heritage Electric Trains Trust trustees will be on site to talk to visitors about the project to renovate 4732 and show you around the unit and the challenges it presents.

Just visited this today ( Saturday) and I thought well worth a look. The old Euston departure board all wired up and working was interesting too. Having been to Derby last weekend as well, whilst of course there is no comparison this was still actually pretty good. After an initial rush of visitors in the morning it was not particularly crowded. I had an afternoon ticket but they let me in in the morning. I live about an hour away but it would have been worth a few hours drive to see. You can go inside an old Eurostar coach with interesting ? First class compartments and you can walk on walkways alongside several other coaches. The video by Dawn Model railway quest on YouTube gives a good idea of what it is like there.
PS amazing to see the 4732 unit .. Though sad to see so much rust ...Hope you guys can restore it. Well done for saving it so far .

Thank you for your kind words. Hopefully one of the carriages will be off soon for restoration (Car one 12796). As soon as we know we will be posting about it.

What's the plan for the SUB? There's not much call for EMUs on preserved railways so is the restoration aimed at long term display in the museum rather than getting it running?

At present the plan is to get at least one of the coaches cosmetically restored and returned to margate. (Car one 12796), then repeat the process for the rest of the cars (Car two 12795 etc)

As for running. Running under its own power won't happen, but it can be hauled (any air braked loco will work) or even long term battery conversion maybe a option. But the main aim is to get is to a good display standard at present.

Good to hear that it's got a future under cover. Too many heritage EMUs have rotted away
