Does anyone know if this move out of Leicester tonight is likely to be a 99?

I thought that was the mail 769 on test , thats whats been running from Leicester LIP towards London recently.

Agreed, that was my first thought, but that normally runs to Euston. Ferme Park would seem an odd place for it to go. After Ferme Park the 5Q79 seems to form tests towards Upminster.

Here's the path for at least 1 99 to visit The Greatest Gathering. Runs tomorrow afternoon and will of course be the first 99 to visit Derby.

0Q87 15:45 Leicester L.I.P - Derby Litchurch Lane:

Lead to believe both are going (so I've been told).

Both 99001 and 002 have been back in Leicester LIP since the 4th (002 has been there for longer). There were several overnight 5Q** moves to Peterborough and back, but all were cancelled. Next week, there are various 5Q** moves between Leicester and Peterborough from Monday to Thursday. It's not clear to me if they are intended for 99s or 769s, but if the former, perhaps these could be the first mainline diesel runs for the class. These are the moves for Monday:
- 5Q80 0910 Leicester L.I.P. to Peterborough https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K41792/2025-08-11/detailed
- 5Q81 1046 Peterborough to Leicester https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K41791/2025-08-11/detailed
- 5Q82 1254 Leicester to Langham Jn. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K41790/2025-08-11/detailed
- 5Q84 1403 Langham Jn. to Melton Mowbray Up Loop https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K41787/2025-08-11/detailed
- 5Q87 1449½ Melton Mowbray Up Loop to Peterborough https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K41788/2025-08-11/detailed
- 5Q92 1602 Peterborough to Leicester L.I.P. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K41789/2025-08-11/detailed

Class 5 to me indicates it would be a 769.

I would think the 99s would use class 0/4 or 6 headcodes

I assumed that there were still some coaches in Leicester from Yarmouth, the ones used on the previous 66-hauled 99 tests to Carlisle. Are any there at present?

If you believe the RTT information it's a diesel train with 400t of coaches.
So presumably a 99 on diesel. Class 5 covers empty coaches. 4 and 6 are different speeds.

A clas 5 can be an empty Pendolino or Evero. For that matter an Azuma or TPE 802. Other options are available.

If the RTT information is to belied it's a diesel train hauling 400t. So it probably will be a 99 or more on coaches.

Class 5 trains are usually empty coaches.whether Pendolino or Evero. Maybe even Azuma or TPE 802. Other options are available

Class 4:and 6 usually apply to different speeds.

Class 5 is simply standard priority ECS, nothing to do with Pendolinos, Azumas or anything else. Just an empty stock movement.

Try reading RTT for a terminal station. You'll find plenty Pendoninos, TPE 397s and 802s available, Azuma and many more. Other types are freely available.

It's been 3 days since it happened and surprisingly no post on here, so I'm assuming this went under the radar...

History was made for the 99's on Thursday 21st August 2025. 0Q99 Leicester - Peterborough was 99001+47739. The 99 was leading and powered on either diesel or HVO with the 47 trailing, so this was the first movement of a 99 under diesel or HVO power on the mainline. I can provide a link to a Flickr photo that shows proof if anyone asks.

At Peterborough yard, there was a swap and 47739+99001 became the consist order for 0Q99 Peterborough - Whitemoor.

In summary, the 99 worked Leicester - Peterborough and the 47 worked Peterborough - Whitemoor. 99001 remains at Whitemoor and as far as I'm aware hasn't worked since. 99002 remains at Leicester depot.

Just a question for clarity
AIUI HVO is a fuel (hydrogenated vegetable oil ??) and I think I read that 99s will use it exclusively, so presumably the 99 ran on "engine" hauling the 47 from Leicester to Peterborough. I am guessing that unless someone pumps the wrong fuel in, 99s wont ever have diesel in them, but prompts a a further question. How are 99s going to be fuelled ? Presumably by a HVO bowser lorry apart from maybe a fueller station in the shed at Leicester

Sure other locos run/have run on HVO. Remember seeing a 60 at Cardiff in about 2021 stating it ran on HVO. Think some 68s do too?

Fantastic news! Has anyone seen any footage of the test on YouTube? I'm having trouble finding any videos.

All of the Chiltern Class 68s, 68010-68015, run on HVO. Fuelled at Stourbridge Junction Depot.

Some of DB 66s run on it dont they?
I know one of the fuel tanks at Toton is marked HVO but I wondered if that was for 67005/006 for when they performed Royal duties.

Perhaps it is a lot more widespread then

Interesting. Did not know that. Presume they have an HVO tank at Gresty or Kingmoor for them then.

No, it's just stourbridge. HVO and Diesel can be mixed without issue.

99001 remains at Whitemoor. As posted by @800001 above, 99002 will be heading to Peterborough later today, I'm unsure if under its own power or dragging 47727. That's because more testing is scheduled and there's more new places to visit for the class.

99002 is expected to work the following for overnight testing this week, starting tonight. Heads up to anyone local to Peterborough, Ely or the GEML!

4Q90 21:17 Peterborough North Yard GBRF - Ipswich SS:

4Q91 23:53 Ipswich SS - Temple Mills Loop:

4Q92 03:09 Temple Mills Loop - Ipswich SS:

4Q96 05:33 Ipswich SS - Peterborough North Yard GBRF:

47727 will return to Leicester after it arrives at Peterborough with 99002, so won't be involved with the test runs I posted above.

Is there any updated news on when we might see further examples landing in the UK? I understand subsequent deliveries will come via Portbury rather than Avonmouth.
