Well, the queue off the main road is now moving at a reasonable pace...

I enjoyed the BLS tour yesterday - decent group, no top men and only a couple of people who looked like they needed help dressing and washing! A good crowd in the carriage I was in other than one loud mouth who I enjoyed putting right

not that I do this sort of thing (obvs) but it was nice to cover the curve from the WCML behind Lichfield station and, of course, the works access line. Also I never managed a 57 drag when they were on the North Wales coast so happy to get that one crossed off ;)

I hope the raffle and sale of carriage labels raised lots of money for charity also.

Plenty of time offered to get a behind the scenes sneak peak on the festival site was nice. They have missed a trick there. They could have sold an early bird ticket for Thursday evening like many festivals now do
Agree with all of this, but the long wait at Derby and the absolute mess on the test train slightly spoiled the experience for me. Also 90018 was not really visible hidden behind various other locos.

The Deltics aren’t lined up and D9000 doesn’t seem to be there neither does 47593, some locomotives have been badly positioned

Apparently an hour late isn't out of the ordinary for a spotter special! We got early access to the site and a chance to wander freely. I don't let small things worry me. The biggest issue for me was the delay meant a much later journey home and less time than i would have liked on site

Also lets not over react: the test train wasn't an "absolute mess" for goodness sake! it was slow to load/unload as all c.800 (?) from a Pendolino had to cross the site and board by one set of steps but there were seats for everyone. There was a problem of about 10 minutes where the train wouldn't move at the end of the line but that was it. If that is an "absolute mess" then my delay on getting to Crewe was catastrophic!

I am going on Sunday and it will be much busier and have many more annoyances!

PS - I get people are different and worry about different things but it was fine overall. It was later than i would have liked on site but i wasn't put at any hardship. It was a little bit silly that the test train didn't work but again it wasn't a hardship. Where i was sat people were joking they might score one of those "strange" 08's for haulage ;)

the complaints begin! The class 91's aren't lined up either or the 37's.

They didn’t check the name on my ticket - they had air cadets with scanners - and the bag check was a brief look inside. I did voluntarily surrender a glass bottle of kombucha I forgot about though.

Currently about halfway through the holding pen after security.

They've given up on the exit barrier checks already at Derby. We were funnelled out asap.

The 08:46 northbound Trent Valley stopper's been cancelled at Milton Keynes and I think they've been cancelled for the next few hours, which is possibly an inconvenient day for it for more people than normal.

They now seem to be letting people walking from the station jump straight into the queue rather than sending them to the end!
They are at least letting people with mobility impairments wait in a holding area (albeit without any seats!)

Glad I elected to do the 345 test track first. A nice sit down after an hour in a queue is just what the doctor ordered.

Does anyone know what the parking situation might be like, as we're driving, and I'm not optimistic.

Its almost as if its a working industrial complex and not a showground..

Perhaps if you ask nicely they will lift some of the track and move it where you'd like it?

I don't think the Deltic lineup is too unreasonable of a request. Old Oak common 111 managed to make the best of its working industrial complex environment and had a class 50 lineup.

Health and safety was definetly considered on that event but you were allowed to look round loco-footplates and sound whistles on some of them. Basically making the best of its environment for one last hurrah for the depot.

this is a different sort of site with many more buildings and a different track arrangement - perhaps the real limitation is shunting capacity and flexibility to move things around on the track layout
Hope someone takes footage from the Gatherings ferris wheel.
you might see the side of a shed ;)

I waited until about 11 before taking a bus from the station, but got there and found the half mile queue so I have come back to my hotel for the time being. If they've sold tickets to 12,500 people they ought to have set up an entry system to cope with 5000 or so per hour, i.e. more than one per second. I will try my luck after lunch but I may give up entirely.

Edit: I did wonder why so many are walking from the station rather than taking a bus. If they're being allowed to jump the queue that would explain it, but it exacerbates the problem for those who do take a bus.

Was that the time when you joined the queue or when you got in?

according to the guide book provided near the entrance of Litchchurch that 807010 is listed as one if the units that is meant to be at the greatest gathering?

I don’t remember seeing an announcement that it would be attending?

Didn't they say they would keep some exhibits as surprise for the day ? , 807010 might have been one of them.

Got called an effing c-word by a bearded moron for the crime of walking along a path while he was taking the same photo hundreds of people had taken. Reported it to a steward since he had apparently done the same to a family.

Unfortunately some spotters take personal offence when you dare to walk along a platform or public path. Had some guy go ape at me at Kidderminster for walking along the platform when a loco was shunting
