Avanti Everos On board Announcements

Hi there, why do avanti’s everos have a different automated announcer to the pendolinos? In my opinion the pendolino announcements sound far better.

They do have Welsh announcements as well, which Voyagers (and Pendolinos when they worked into Wales) didn't.

the Everos anouncements seem a bit tinny, although as other have said they needed the welsh announcements as was had on the voyager fleet. there is also the fact it's two diffrent manufacturers Alstom for pendos and Hitachi for Everos of course there will be diffrences.

Personally i think it is a big improvement. The announcer on the 390s (Emma Lintern) sounds dreadful. She talks like she is voicing a radio advert trying to sell you something. It gets so annoying. I find the voice on the 80Xs (Tanya Rich) is less annoying to listen to. But the old voice on the 221s (Justine Harris) before they were withdrawn was good.

I think her voice is great for radio adverts and television adverts. She has the perfect kind of voice for that. But i personally think her voice is over enthusiastic for train announcements. You need a more neutral calm voice for train announcements. Emma Lintern was also originally on the LNER 800/801 units and they got rid of her (and Justine Harris replaced her) for that exact reason. LNER found her voice to be far too bubbly and over enthusiastic.

I think the avanti brand is meant to be enthusiastic and bubbly so her voice fits it perfectly.

I guess it is really a matter of personal preference. There are a lot who like her voice. Tanya just sounds a lot better than Emma to me. Although there are certainly worst voices out there. Emma is much better and less annoying than Matt for one example.

Because it make a difference to your journey. Having a good quality pleasant voice is important especially with how many automated announcements our trains have. Also a lot of us have an interest in this sort of thing.

She was removed a couple months before they entered passenger service. So i do not have any videos unfortunately. I remember there was an LNER staff member who posted some videos on Facebook and Twitter of Emma Lintern announcing while they are doing test runs and training drivers and guards. I can not find them now unfortunately.

Would you say the voyagers announcments were better than the Everos?

Personally I prefer Emma Lintern’s voice over Tanya, which I find quite dry sounding. It might also help that the Pendolino announcements are concise, and the 805/807s are not. That said, the Welsh voice on the 805s/807s is much more pleasant sounding than TfW’s female on board equivalent.

Must have been a fairly recent thing then (maybe on the last refurb by Avanti?).
They've always had bi-lingual visual PIS.
