They have been using the 08 from OOC to move the sleeper stock for the last two weeks. I should imagine the 57 you saw at Plymouth is there for repairs.

It would probably be one of the smoothest runs on the night riviera ever.

Shame about the lack of hotel supply though.

 Amusing reply, but ever so true!

I think (well more hope, to ensure the sleeper runs as punctually as possible) FGWman was inferring to an 08 dragging the stock into the station on the ECS bit vice 57, not go all the way to London. ;)

The 08 certainly does make it all the way to London, but only from Old Oak Common. The 57 usually propels the stock between Penzance station and Long Rock. If it is over a certain length the 08 will be used though.

You'd be lucky getting an 08 up to 20mph, since their top speed is 15mph! As has been said, the 08 will only be doing the OOC - Paddington ECS move, and quite possibly Paddington - OOC after the sleeper from Penzance arrives in the morning.

Bit late i know but it should have been 57602.

57603 was the down engine.

57605 was taken by road to Laira to have a wheelset change and 57604 is on jacks at O.O.C for bogie overhaul work.
