I'd assume that for railway purposes a Great Dane would be classified as "A small horse".

Well, it seems we're getting a second one, so definitely need to consider some additional accommodation! Joking aside, we once went to Paignton from Leeds on an HST when I was a kid, our Dane then slept under the table all the way - more than one passenger was surprised when she emerged with a big yawn and stretch!

I disagree. People with pets have to travel from one place to another for all sorts of reasons, for instance if they moving home or taking their pet to be looked after by family or friends.

Or taking their pet to the vet. If banned from public transport, pet owners who don't drive or don't have the use of a car would be forced to take a taxi (if they can find a taxi operator that will take their pet) or rely on family and friends for lifts if their vet wasn't within walking distance of their home.

Funnily enough, I was walking across the concourse at Leeds earlier this week and there was a bloke with a large snake around his neck. I wonder if he got there by train !

I keep misreading the title of this thread as "Poets should be banned from the rail network".

That would be a bit harsh on John Betjeman and Simon Armitage.

I have a large and very well-behaved German shepherd and she goes on the train with me, and i have never had any issues with her, she sits on the floor calm, moves if i need her to, and everyone so far loves her, She properly been trained, and she's calm, I get more problems from people asking, can I say hullo, and that sort of thing, Shes better behaved than most children, and a lot of adults, she don't think much of the underground though, loved the Hovercraft, and fast cat, when we have gone across to the Island,
