150255 is now finished with TfW, working it's last day on the Ebbw Vale Line, departing Canton tomorrow as 5Z55 at 1055 using unit number 150255. Lots of 55s in that!

Very oddly, 150235 is now expected at The Greatest Gathering in Derby for August!
I guess its easier to send a recently withdrawn unit over a service one, wouldn't affect the amount in service on the day after all.

Anyone know which tfw 158 is at arrival train care bristol? I assume its one of the pair from the crash last year?

Now been informed in another thread the active fleet is being sent one at a time for overhaul.

Yeah, with any sense to Northern to replace the stupid unreliable 769s yet keep much stuff up there booked 4-car
It's better discussed in the speculative thread, but all signs are pointing to the Class 158s having a home at Northern once the Ansaldo onboard ETCS is removed.

With regards to 150231, I don't expect that it has a future beyond 1st-3rd August

Seriously it'll probably be out of life and be withdrawn.
I thought the 150s are going straight to scrap as nobody wants to pay for the overhauls?

Thanks both for the replies.

There seemed to be 20 x 150s in service today. 13 on the core valleys, 2 on Ebbw Vale/Newport, 2 on Ebbw Vale/Maesteg and 3 on the Heart of Wales/Fishguard etc

20 in service out of 24 left is quite impressive really.

Not really on the Core Valley Lines, just the Caerphilly - Barry Island / Bridgend and Penarth lines, as just 2 x 231s were in service today, which is very poor.
2 car 150s to Barry Island will be fun when the weather hots up over the school holidays.
The 150s can't be in the bin soon enough for me. When they are on service alongside Stadler FLiRTs the contrast is stark.

The Pontypridd lines are now exclusively 756s and occasionally 231s, its just passengers on the Caerphilly and Vale of Glamorgan lines that still have to suffer with 150s.

I meant services that are part of the Valley/Cardiff Local routes rather than list each route i put them together and then listed the 'Mainline' services Newport to Ebbw, Maesteg to Ebbw etc.

I noticed there seemed to be a lot of 150s on the Barry Island services. Just 2 x 231s is indeed poor!

On a good day, all Barry Island services are 231s, with 150s just on the Barry to Bridgend line. But today was an exceptionally poor day for 231s.

Well, there'll be no 1980s alternative soon! Reliable as they may be, they're old and tatty to the majority of 2020s travellers.

Just to note as I’m sure they’ll be somebody keeping track of sprinters to Manchester; 158820 operated one of the two Crewe - Manchester shuttle diagrams on Sunday 20th July.

Some news from The Mid Hants Railway that will surprise some. Thanks to Porterbrook, 150321 will be preserved on the Watercress Line.

Make way for a Heritage Rail 'First' at The Watercress Line!

We’re thrilled to announce that Class 150 Sprinter Unit 150231 is joining our running fleet, making us the first heritage railway in the UK to operate a second-generation Diesel Multiple Unit.

Originally built in 1987 and donated by Porterbrook, this iconic ‘Sprinter’ has been unveiled today at the sold-out Railway 200: The Greatest Gathering in Derby - and is now ready for its next chapter on our rails, proudly restored to its original livery by the incredible Aura Brand Solutions.

This marks a major milestone for The Watercress Line, filling a key gap in our operations. Look out for earlier departures from Alton as 150231 joins service soon!
