How close does a replacement bus stop need to be to a station?

Catching a replacement bus tonight (luckily in the opposite direction to Tunbridge Wells) this evening I was surprised to see this sign, directing northbound passengers to a stop a 30 minute walk away, uphill, on a road mostly unlit. It seems…unreasonable?! Image my own.

I suspect that there are actually quite a lot, with many “station approaches” not actually being public roads - although de facto they might as well be so.

Hever station approach is a private road but with access on foot only.

I finished my DofE hike there. I think there was a small crossing adjacent to the station but it was not a public road/crossing.

It's a public road from the North, private from the South, although realistically nobody is going to be coming from the North.

Isn't Middlewood station about half a mile away from a road, being only on the Middlewood Trail which is itself a former railway and a public foorpath?

As somebody who did live in London for 5 years, I enjoy the definition of a 'long footpath' here. North Sheen I make out to be 140 metres including the turns, or a 2 minute walk, to a road.

There must be loads of railway stations across the country where car park to platform is >2 mins walk.

But in London terms, yes it's probably quite long!

Edit: just planned in properly on OS Maps. 120 metres, or 1 minute walk.

Isn't Middlewood station about half a mile away from a road

Looking at openstreetmap, Middlewood station seems to have three entrances. A path from the southern platform to the middlewood way, a path from the northern platfrom to the middlewood way, and a path heading north-west to join up with another path that I suspect was a former road (the roads at both ends are called middlewood road).

The shortest route from middlewood station to a public road seems to be to take footpath at the west end of the southern platform and head westwards towards middlewood road. Total distance is about 250 meters

Argyle Street’s eponymous road outside is pretty permanently pedestrianised (benches in the middle etc), would that count?

On the road to How Wood Station, there is a sign stating that the road is only suitable for pedestrians.
