They got a prohibition notice served on them, for not having a Control function, and the driver who had a SPAD was the person who should have been on a 'Control Desk'. When this was found out, the ORR rightly hit the roof.

The operation has had a few questions, but the general jist of it seems to be that this is an operation that lacked the money or the ability to be competent to operate. The fact that the MD's twitter feed has gone dead silent probably tells you a lot.
Didn’t said driver also arrange (as the duty control manager) for himself to be relieved by another driver, which also turned out to be himself?

Rumour has it regarding the SPAD incident at Northampton, the Driver was the Control and the On Call Manager.

There is a lot of wibble here - is there a link to any official documents?
None at all. It seems to be all hearsay. The presumptuous "shame to see them go" comments don't help either. Nothing on this thread has actually been fact checked yet so we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions

Cancelled apperently
ROG contact reports the condition of the units isn't known enough to be able to get Network Rail to sign off on the clearance. So someone has to go and get them properly looked at, check the state of doors, windows, and everything else to be able to then get them moved.

Some phots of the 8 321s in various locations have surfaced on Facebook and they do look very sorry for themselves. Many have been graffitied as well.

I have 10 on my list a being owned by Varamis:

334, 338, 339, 341, 342, 407, 419, 428, 429, 440.

Which ones have I listed in error?
You are correct, from what I can tell all of those are owned by varamis.

Maybe they were just talking about the 8 unit's currently in Wembley as 321428 and 429 are currently in Mossend ?

They are owned by Varamis. Eversholt no longer have any 321s on their books.
Other than the missing trailer coach, are the Class 320/4s technically still Class 321/4s? (just as a point of interest)

I think they're 100mph units whereas the 320/3s are 90mph so Id say so yeah. Correct me if I'm wrong

You're wrong. They are officially classified as 320/4s. Not 321s. And the system says they are 90mph maximum speed, too.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting serious financial problems, staff put on unpaid leave and no services until at least September when they hope the Christmas parcel bonanza will save them.

This will explain why they are wanting to get their 321’s to Newport for scrap for some quick cash then.

Any sane business would at least want half of the movement cost paid up front knowing the business is in financial difficulty.

Some choice extracts:
The Office of Rail and Road said it had no record of a rumoured prohibition notice against Varamis. Such notices are issued against companies that break stringent rail safety rules.
Between the financial year 2020-21 and the present day, Network Rail almost doubled how much it charges freight train companies for using its 25,000-volt overhead electric cables.

It also doubled the tariff for consuming traction electricity between 2020-21 and 2023-24, although this year the rate has fallen slightly.
Mr Livingstone said the electric freight train company hopes the increase in parcels needing to be moved around in the months leading up to Christmas will bring it some respite.

“We have been unable to get the volume [of parcels needed] to get to a break-even position, so we had to go out and get some financing, which we’ve managed to secure,” the director said.

“We are holding back from running a service until we can get sufficient volume to really be able to run at least a break-even service,” he added.

“Our hope is that it will be by mid-September… I think we should be good. If we have to wait longer, we’ll wait longer.”
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We’ve been working closely with Varamis to try and keep their business moving by rail and are committed to building rail freight across Britain’s rail network.”

The spokesman added that Network Rail understood that Varamis’s operations had been paused because of problems with a third-party terminal in Scotland previously served by the operator.

Tough for the employees, thoughts with them during a summer without pay.

Didn't they just buy five 325s? You have to wonder who is making those decisions.
