Seatfrog is currently offering 1st class upgrades on the 18:30 Manchester to Cardiff on 29th July.

It looks from the pdf timetable as if this train should have 1st class.

But the TfW journey planner isn't showing first class fares, and says there's no catering of any kind.

Any idea what's going on?

I can imagine that they might know in advance that a train that should be Mk 4's isn't going to be. But shouldn't they let Seatfrog know if that's the case?

I see First Class fares for the 1830 MAN - CDF on 29 July.

Ah I think I see the problem.

I was including a connecting train and there are first class advance fares defined for the station pair but not anytime ones.
So it will only show first class fares if there are advances available.

Not entirely obvious.

The complexity of the british ticket system.....

Our ticketing site should handle that, by offering first class fare(s) on the portion of the journey that has first class, and standard class fare(s) on the remainder.

Good to know.

I wasn't planning on buying a ticket from TfW.

But I trusted their web site to have the correct information on catering more than any information they might provide to third party sites.
